11/08: El Mirage: Revisited

What up gang? A few of us are heading out to El Mirage Dry Lakebed on November 8th and are welcoming fellow enthusiast.

Our last run (video: Dirty Pontiacs - http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j6...t=e0732474.flv) was great fun and we are looking to organize another run. A few of you guys had expressed interest in my last post about a part II a few weeks back so I’m tossing out an invite.

We are meeting up at the Denny’s off of Sand Cyn just off the 14 Freeway at 8am. See map below. This is just minutes north on the 14N from the San Fernando Valley.

We will be following a “Tread Lightly” policy. From what I understand, there will be a SCTA event the following weekend and a local wind sailing club has an event the weekend of the 8th / 9th.

Objective is to film the cars doing some high speed fly bys, some drifts, etc. Basically the fun stuff you see car commercials doing. Any donuts or things of that nature will be done far out of the way of traffic and with respects to the area.

People are welcome to bring their cameras, mounts, etc for pictures and video, as this is just a casual car meet.

Side note: Effective October 1st, they now charge $15.00 to enter the lake bed.

Below I am working on a camera mount that I am experimenting with. Its still a work in progress and should fun. Camera would be mounted on the end of the aluminum pole and be used to film backwards and forwards. Clearly the cars will be kicking up dust so we will have to be creative with capturing certain shots.

Warning: You car will get dirty. Unless you are a desert rat and are not afraid of getting the car dusted, this might not be a run for you. My buddy Danny took out his brand new G8 (in the video) and he doest have a scratch on the car and car was flawless one wash later. You just have to be smart about things and careful. I do recommend a sock or sleeve for your K&N.

On our way back to the valley (mid day) a few of us will be hitting up Cruisers car wash to clean up the rides. I’m looking forward to seeing their faces when we all pull up. LOL.

hey, look what i just found! lol. I hit all of them up, but they are already going to a meet with some hhr's at toms farm in temechula...which I may leave the lake bed a lil early to join them(partly the reason I'm gonna be out there so early also), dunno yet. i'll have to see how it goes with my ATV

Yes, I have your number and I'll definitely be out there(hoping by about 6:00-6:30) by myself with my quad playing around till you guys show up. Then around 11 or 12 maybe(play it by ear) i'll head to the Tom's Farm Meet.

haha, awesome teaser! yes sir, powerstroke turbo diesel...and that "little stunt" at the end i did scared the crap out of me, i almost thought i was gonna lose it(more than i already did)lol that was one BAD out of control fishtale...did you get that on vid?

I’m waiting on a buddy Mike of Haddad Motorsports. He promises to bring his Supercharged G8 out for some play after he finishes his magazine photo shoots.

We’ll probably knock off another run just after the new years. I’d love to get a big group out, but not everyone is into getting their car dusted. Hehehe….

 

I'm going to Haddads shop today to order dome stuff with my brother today. I'll run it by him today & see what he says.

 

Cool. Tell him Daniel says he missed a great run. The Black GTO is actually Jonathan and is one of his buddies. We gotta make Mike feel bad for missing the run so he'll for sure make the next one.

I've known Mike for years. He needs a few guilt trips here and there....

 

Hey Danny I told Mike he missed a great run. He said you were there yesterday (must have been Thursday) rubbing it in.

 

Nice. That was probably the other Danny, the one who drives the G8 in my group.
As long as Mike got the beat down, we are good!!

I'm still working on my buddy to get me a final disc of his HD stuff from his camera. Thats got a few more fly bys and my e-Brake slides at speed. Not too shabby.

When in Feb?

 

This was my GP, it had a 98 3800 SC installed w/ mods of course. Top speed run, not sure at what speed the photo was taken, but ended up breaking 140 on that run (HUD ftw)

Let me post it up and see what we can line up with everyone. Clearly, there is the SCE meet, we have a Santa Barbara cruise (our Feb GME thing) and in March we got the next Street Legals in Fontana. I'm sure we can fit in an El Mirage III Run!

HUD? Cool. They are stock in most higher end Grand Prix and Bonneville's. Some Vettes too.

Had one in our 2002 Grand Prix GTP. Pretty cool....

Yes...was a great feature on the GP's. I had it on all 3 of my GP's I've owned

haha, i have no idea, theres probably some after market setup u could get, or maybe even steel a saab setup lol
