anyone know any smog techs in the LA area?

moving to LA on May 1st and im eventually going to need to get my car registered. i have a k&n intake and injen charge pipes on my ss/tc that will likely fail the visual portion of the smog test.

does anyone know of any or is a smog tech who is willing to ignore the intake and charge pipes as long as it passes the emissions portion? (i do have a catted downpipe)

im willing to tip generously for the saved time and effort of having to buy stock parts and put them back on just to pass a smog test!

Apparently they are changing the inspection rules soon... you may not need to undergo a visual inspection just a an OBDII scan and thats it... not even a sniffer.

if that's the case, it'll be more lenient than here! all you gotta do is make sure all your sensors are working and have a de-fouler if you have a highflow/catless setup

the changes in the inspection rules are in AB2289 goes in to effect 2013. cars 2001 and newer will have a visual and obd2 test and no sniffer test. the state will set the price for this test around 20-30 bucks. 2000 and older cars will have the same test we do now asm1525. There will be no more "test only" directed vehicles. They are also starting a grading system called STARS for techs, and shops its a 1 though 5 star system. Your shop will have to be a 5 stars shop to test 2000 and older cars, so the techs that are clean piping are most likey low performing techs and will not be as desirable, because the state will not set a price for 2000 and older cars, so you want to be a 5 star shop to get the 50-60 dollar inspection.

yep, theres the fail still...the visual, the sniffer makes more sense than anything if they are so worried about pollution. it should be sniffer only

With a Hahn Catted DP chances are you will fail the sniffer test, GM put two cats on the stock DP for a reason, not just for looks.

Not if you are tuned for E85 or an E85 mix. It will burn seriously clean almost no emissions.

maybe its bad for the turbo guys who want to run fatty exhausts n whatnot, but only needing to pass the visual/OBD2 means i can build a high compression head/wild cam 418CID stroker, put down 600+whp, and look stock

They have a section in the bill that makes it so they can make any car a "directed vehicle", and directed vehicle's get the test we get now, so you may not be in the clear.

Well you didn't help yourself by doing that because now your in the system as modified or tampered, and now the smog tech. is going to take a much bigger risk, and is going to want more cash. The smog machine will tell them the car was tested on this day and failed.
