Cali people come in

I'm considering moving to California along with some other options, but I need some input from people that have lived there for a while. My plan, wherever I go, is to work and go to a community college until I establish residency, then transfer to a university to finish off my degree and go on to grad school. What are some cool areas to live in real close to a major university campus (UC, State, etc.) that aren't enormous amounts of money? Preferably southern, but if you know of a cool place in northern cali, feel free to post it up. Thanks guys.

Watts has some nice areas, or you could try Hawthorne or maybe Inglewood.

Fonzi, where is bakersfield located? I'm less concerned about being close to the CC because I only plan to attend one while I establish residency. My grades are good enough to get into most of the UC's right now, I just don't want to ask my Dad to spend an extra 20k a year on my schooling just because I want to be in Cali

Cool thanks guys, I'm looking into these places. I'll probably be out there in March looking at places and I'll stop by a meet or something if there's one going on.

I'm not on a low budget, I just don't want to pay over say ~600-750 a month on rent without amenities for now.

You'll need a roomate or 2 if you want to pay that much.

I'm from the suburbs of detroit. I think my view of hood is different from your view of hood because the places i've seen for those prices aren't too bad.

this is hood to me. If that's what I would have to live in, **** that I'd live with my uncle Of course as soon as I establish residency I can spend more money on living. I might have to just get a roommate or two.

x2.

I go to San Jose State University. A couple community colleges within a couple miles of my school. SJSU is an awesome school too depending on what you're majoring on. Also lots of diversity.. tons of ppl.. and credibility. Also has grad school right here along w/ it. I got accepted to SDSU.. Sac State.. And Cal Poly SLO.. And the only one I considered going to over SJSU was Cal Poly but that was in the middle of nowhere and the major departments were both on the same level. Just my .02

Cheapest state school to afford as well

Our hoods may not look like that, still doesn't change the fact that people get shot, stabbed, raped, and murdered in some areas.
