the back window can go as dark as u like as long as it is non reflective. Side windows as well... the front side windows are a different story... must allow 70% of the sun into the car... so no more then a 20% tint i believe... probibly better if u went 15% to be safe.. most tint shops should know though. color can be any but RED AMBER OR BLUE.
u can check this site.... http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/CA/

wait a minute!

correct me if i am wrong but percent wise you may be all wrong...the lower percent you go the darker the tint will be...like this---5% tint(allows 5% light to pass through)

and in california drivers side and passengers side window tint is against the law unless oem(in the glass)... but really if its really not all that dark you shouldnt be getting any trouble.

thats just what i know.(i have tint)

the way you measure tint is by the % of light that it lets through..

so 70% tint.. lets in 70% of light. which is basically nothing.

however they count the tint doesnt matter.... fact is u can put tint as long as u have 70% of light going through the front side window....so if i am wrong then ok... u cant have any more then 70% tint.

ya they say its a cop safety thing out here. That a cop cant see in through the window if there is tint so they dont know what the driver could be doing..... its all BS u can gamble and just tint it anyway, i do and if they do catch u its a fix a ticket, get it removed and then u get the ticket taken off for free then put it back on later..... or have a CHP in the family write it off for you!!!! God I love that !!!!

Ok I will tell u the actual cali law on this since we have discussed it in my c.v.c. class. Ur back and any other windows besides the driver and passenger can be as dark as u want, even double limo. In the state of cali any tint on the front windows is illegal. The only people who r ever gonna give u a ticket is chp. They r dicks when they come to tint. Now if u get a ticket with the tint u remove it show any peace officer to sign it off and pay 10 bucks. But be careful, u get enough of them it will show up in ur record and the next ticket will be a moving violation not fix it ticket

I agree with this guy. In Cali, no tint is allowed in the front windows but the back and rear you can do pretty much whatever you want and yeah if you get a tickets you get it fixed have someone sign it and pay the court fee (usually 10 bucks). But if I were you, I'd do whatever makes you happy if you get caught you get caught, but it doesn't happen often.

like i said, all tint is fine. but the front driver and passanger windows can be tinted but have to be able to let in 70% of light so it isnt much.... unless u have a medical condition that makes u sensitive to light or something.

since when can we tint the front side windows? from my knowlege and my 2 recent tickets, you cant have the frint sides tinted at all. hmm if they allow up to 70% we can probably get away w/ 50%. sweet.

they allow tint but 70% is so light that its like not having it at all.... I dont even know of anyone who has 70% tint.... most just risk the chance and get it like 35-50% tint and hope the cops arent been dicks like usual

and once again i have to say, it is allowed at 70% tint wich is nothing I know but it is still a tint.... so while it is a wast of money, Tint in cali on the front side windows are leagle but at a pointless level..... read the law http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/CA/
