You don't HAVE to register your car in hawaii, but if you have out of state plates you have to put this giant blue decal on your bumper (about the size of a motorcycle licence plate) Also you are still required to get state safety inspections done even with out of state plates. The safety inspection checks a lot of ****. They turn on all of your lights and yes it is illegal to have HID's in your car. Also changing any of your lights from stock is illegal. so putting in projectors will fail your inspection. Also if you've modded your suspension at all you need to pass a recon inspection before you can pass your safety inspection. On the plus side there are no emission checks so a catlees DP should be just fine
The laws in hawaii are kinda ridiculous when it comes to our cars but for the most part most laws are kinda overlooked by most cops. As long as your HID's are white (no colors at all) the chances of getting pulled over are almost nil. You won't get a ticket for having projectors you just gotta put your stock lights in for the annual inspections. Tinted tails are VERY illegal but again the chances of getting pulled over for them are nil, you just gotta swap them out for non-titned ones every time you get your inspection.
The thing to remember is that even tho most things are overlooked if you get pulled over for speeding or something you'll prolly get tickets for all the other crap too.

ok, well I have stock 'ish headlights so I can just put those in for inspection...sooooo my fogs are HIDs I gota take those out? Thats some ****. Whats a "recon inspection?" Cause I have sportlines on my car. I guess I'll have to invest in some non tinted tails...
