Las Vegas! Need help with LNF powered Exocar...

Thank you for viewing my questions. Ive been searching this forum and working on the engine for 8 months to get to... well, nowhere. It runs and drives, but in limp mode only.

The car in question:

Name: P1010051.jpg
Views: 847
Size: 220.9 KB

Name: SLRazorfirstdrive009.jpg
Views: 767
Size: 142.5 KB

The engine in this car (Superlite Razor, by RCR) is from an 08 HHR SS. I have the Trifecta software and have been working on trying to reset/replace all the issues that Ive been having (LOTS of Check Engine Lights). Ive only had this car at "full" power a couple of times. Its ridiculous how fast it is.

It continuously "pops" the MAF sensor as well as many others. Ive replaced nearly every sensor on the car. The engine is STOCK, other than the intake and exhaust. I just cant seem to figure this thing out. It always drives in "limp" mode, or, running 2-3 psi TOPS!!!

Is there anyone in Vegas that can help out? Anyone know these engines in and out?

Thanks again!

That thing is sick.

Did you buy the engine with the Trifecta tune???

I would find an ECU with a stock tune.

Also. Where is the MAf located? in the stock location or re routed? can you post a pic of the engine? is there an 02 sensor in the exhaust piping? turbo manifold?

Ill be in vegas July 20-22. Id like to see this monster then

thats pretty awesome. if you keep popping maf sensors you should try the GMS1 sensor upgrade.
crate engine depot sells them. you'll need two. also if you don't want a mess of rewiring buy their pigtail which allows you to plug and play.

Nice ride!

Are you running a modded version of a Trifecta tune for the setup the engine is on? you cant possibly be running the full wire harness on that setup. I know Vince(Trifecta owner) has been able to get the LNF to run on an airboat and a bunch of other vehicles. It just needs to be customized so that the ECU ignores a lot of the sensors and stuff that are found on a stock HHR/Cobalt, but not present on your setup.

Guessing he had Vince write a solo tune for the ECU, from my knowledge it doesn't play without the BCM unless its setup in standalone mode. Just like the guy that built an air boat with the LNF in it.

That BPV has got to be wicked loud right next to your ear

Thanks for all the compliments.

Long story short, I had this car built by a "GM engineer" while I was deployed. I was originally going to go with a 4G63 or the SRT4 engine.

The tuning is still in it's stock configuration. I have the cord and plug from trifecta, as the guy that was building it for me was going to do all the tuning. (Waiting 8 months after the expected date, I told him to just get my GD car to me). I had the downloadable content to send the "stuff" to Vince. Unfortunately, my computer took a ****. Anyways, I appreciate all the advice so far and I hope to ONE DAY feel the full potential of this engine.

Thanks again!

Email Vince, he'd be the guy to talk to about tuning issues since you're a standalone project. I'd be willing to bet that he has the most recent tune file and can probably send you the downloadable "stuff" you need to make this project work correctly. He's a good guy to work with.

if you ever decide to sell it let me know

now. If your running a basic tune from Vince, You need a retune since you dont have the same sensor set up. This is def a custom tune needed.

Id also advise HP tuners and Terminator 2 tune.

Thats my .02

Ha!

The car weighs in at 1490 lbs with 7 gallons (out of 10) in it. The weight distribution is 39/61, front and rear percentages. Theres a guy that has one with a 300whp 4G motor that runs 0-60 in 2.8.

If only the damn thing didn't go into limp mode..........

Not sure he'd be able to do an HP Tune with the standalone Trifecta tune. But I know nothing about how the standalone stuff works, just that it exists.

I really don't know how much this car has been tuned, or if it's been done at all. The LNF is new to me. Im used to Jeep 4.0 I6s and LSx engines. Those are super easy to diagnose and work on. This LNF is like rocket science to me. The cel will tel me I have a map issue, so I change it out, and it's still there. WTF???

I've heard about the airboat with the LNF engine, and I hope I can find someone in town that has that level of knowledge to help out.

Again, thanks for the compliments and for contacts for help. I really appreciate it!!!

It's completely drivable now. I'll just get whooped by a base model Mustang GT though. I've already driven around red rock a bunch of times. It's funny when sportbike riders think they can out-corner me.... Hehehe.... I'm easily five to ten mph faster in the corners!

drivable as in, still throwing limp mode and cel but you can drive it?

I think you need trifecta to make it stand alone but HPT you could do the tuning.

So for a stock LNF, the intake has the maf in the intake, Then one of the map's on the intake manifold and one on the cold side of charge pipes after the IC.

How is your intake, from intake filter to intake manifold setup?

just get in touch with vince from trifecta. he was the one who made that airboat work standalone without the body control module. guy is a software genius and has plenty experience with the lnf standalone

The HPtuners is a good bet. You can do just about anything with them...

OP- make sure the wiring to the MAP sensors is ok. There are 2 of them, one should be in the cold side charge piping and one should be in the manifold. Check to see which ones they are as well, if they are blue they are 3 bar MAPs and they need a special tune file. If they are grey they are stock ones. There is a known problem with the 3 bar MAPs concerning the wiring of the harness, if a dealer installed them in the car it was pulled out of they may ahve only used crimp style wiring connectors instead of soldering them together. I am pretty sure Terminator2 can tune that thing with or without the BCM connected to the car. The VATS system just needs to be calibrated I believe. If you want an HP tuner in the Vegas area hit up Joe or Chris Warner. They are both on here. Chris' S/N in Warner and Joe's is 07SSYellow. They have a HPTuner computer and should be able to get that thing going. PM Terminator2 on here as well just to see what might be needed as far as tuning without the BCM. HPtuners will be able to tell you more about what is wrong with the tuning anyways, because you can see what the computer is seeing.

Good luck, and if you have any questions let me know I'll try to help as best as I can, as long as I can get a ride in that mother effer later hehe.
