The Volkswagen guys have been doing it for a while. Volkswagens attract the edgy artsy folk, so they always seem to be on the pioneering edge of automobile trends

i went and looked right now, the tire sidewall is leveled with the rim with a little bit up, so yea it looks to have a safe guard lip going on.

i may get ya a pic later so u can make a better call on it haha
