Can some one explain this to me? Some one in another thread said that the way our strut towers are built into the firewall it makes the Strut Tower Bar useless. Mine came used with one, and Ive only autocrossed once and so I dont have a before and after or with/without referance. Do they work? Whatdo they do? And if they do why would some one say they dont?
The purpose of the strut tower bar is to connect the towers together and help towards eliminating flex in the front part of the chassis due to side to side motion, thus giving you better traction in turns. With our strut towers being integrated into the firewall, there isn't very much need for a bar to tie the tops of the towers together, as the firewall already acts as a sort of strut tower bar. If I remember correctly, you would want to stop the flex as much as possible by triangulating a bar and connecting the middle to the firewall, giving it the extra point to resist the flex as much as possible from left to right, front to back.
