'06 Lt sedan clunking over bumps

Hey guys, my cobalt has had a clunk in the front for a while now but it's starting to get rather noisy and i'm not sure if it's links or strut tops, and i really don't want to just throw money at it so i was curious is there is an easy way to test either of the two culprits to see if they're bad. The clunk happens mostly over bumps but does happen when backing up on a tight angle

You should be able to tell if it's your strut tops by opening the hood and observing the middle of the top hat as you push to bounce that corner of the car up and down. You should be able to see it move around excessively I'd think. To test if it is your sway bar end link just jack up the car securely, remove the tire and inspect the link. You should be able to tell if it has excessive play just by trying to move each end around by hand. Also potential causes of noise could be bad sway bar bushings or trailing control arm bushings.
