Exclamation 5x114.3 Conversion and SS/TC Brake Swap

Due to the amount of PM's i am recieving about how i will be mounting the 19" Axis Super Hiros, with their 5x114.3 Lug pattern on my 06 Cobalt SS, I am releasing the information on my full hub swap and brake conversion.

The brakes do not need to be converted, but i chose to go that route because, well, better brakes can never be overlooked.

I will post pictures as the build continues, and do a full How-To

SPECIAL THANKS TO JOHN AT POWELL MOTORSPORTS, AND BRAD(MAVEN) FOR HIS AWESOME GENUINE GM PARTS. NOT TO MENTION BOTH FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING SUPPORT OF MY RELATIVE IGNORANCE

SCOPE:
Ok, i got sick and tired of the cruddy selection of attractive wheels for our factory 5x110. Actually, i didn't find ANY that I liked, so i decided to swap to 5x114.3, which is one of the most common 5 lug hub patterns. I remembered hearing someplace that the Grand Am Time Attack Cobalts were all running a 5x114.3 Grand Am hub conversion. I got into contact with the Powell Motorsports crew that was responsible for building the Time Attack cars for GMPerformanceDivision back in 05. We discussed the multiple angles with which we could approach this situation, and ended up settling on Grand Am hubs. These hubs, along with an LNF Brembo front brake conversion, and LNF knuckles and axles (which are considerably stronger that the production LSJ versions) make up the front hub conversion. The rear consists of a modified rear TWB, with an adjustable chromoly sway bar, transplanted from the Time Attack car, and revised end plates for the rear hubs.

Also included in this build are the OTTPerfomance CnC'd "Rotato Potato" mounts as i like to call them and OTTPerformance steering rack shims.

Also, there will be stainless steel braided brake lines all around (Also from OTT)

PARTS LIST:
Time attack Twisting Beam
Rear Caliper plate
front wheel bearings 5x114.3
rear wheel bearings 5x114.3
Rear caliper set used with pads and handbrake mechanism
Rotated Motor mounts

Shipped as a complete axle with bearings, brake hoses, calipers, pads, bolt in.

PICTURES:

yeah, all you need other that that is a pin kit. Check the sticky in the suspension area, theres a parts list embedded in there.

the TC brakes are about the same size in the rear, as the LSJ fronts, rotor wise, but we are sticking with the SS/SC calipers for the back because of the e-brake linkage, which is different on the TC, and because parts or more readily available.

the rears need to be smaller than the fronts, there is a balance that has to be mainatained, you can't just slap thr brembo calipers on all four corners and be fine.

First of all, WTF sig plagirism?!?!?!?! Sig and avatar theft seems to be running rampant here as of late

You need calipers, rotors, pads, and pin kits. You dont need the TC bolts unless you change your knuckles. you dont need new hoses, the stock ones will work.

General Beckmiester: Youre cunning attempt at geting me to expose my hand has failed. Your Sir, looze.

The General is now being kept in here on a "need to know" basis, and all photo transmissions will cease

note the last pic DOES NOT have a 'rotated potato" mount it has an LNF MOUNT out of the magic GM WHEEL HOP KIT that is FAIL in testing. Cant show all the cards Beckmeister. Sir. Yes Sir...yellow calipers out of the oven time for the 4th VHT coat...
