bilstein struts and shocks

Anybody ever try bilstein struts and shocks? If so how did they handle?

cobaltss#01 10-17-2014 02:47 PM

anyone?

andrewcarr1993 10-18-2014 01:55 AM

No because they don't make them for the Cobalt...

cobaltss#01 10-20-2014 12:17 AM

according to their website and jm auto racing website they do.

andrewcarr1993 10-20-2014 12:21 AM

Well they don't, JM auto's site is shit.

JM auto sells more scam shit on this site then I can possibly fathom, can't believe they are still a reseller here. Go look for my thread about their knock off ksport springs that left my car sitting lopsided.

Actually according to their site they make both front and rear shocks for our car's, doesnt change the fact that Jm auto sucks, but bilstein does make them apparently. Must be a new thing. Insanely priced at that. Acdelco FE5 struts and shocks are 1/4 the price.

andrewcarr1993 10-20-2014 12:44 AM

Well what do you know they do.

Might want to double check with bilstein about that, because they clearly do make them. And you can buy them on summit racing for a whopping 240 a piece.

Damn you read that, literally months ago talking to John he mentioned that. Priced higher than Koni's though I wonder if they are a better option or not.

John isn't always the final word on everything like so many of you guys actually believe lol I like to verify things for myself as well. I'm pretty sure this is a new product lineup for bilstein anyway because I also looked last year when I was replacing my springs for bilstein struts and shocks and they were NOT available.

andrewcarr1993 10-20-2014 01:13 AM

I'm just curious, they don't look adjustable though so I don't see how they could be that much better if at all. They are way more expensive too.

Spawne32 10-20-2014 01:44 AM

Looks like two different models, B6 is the standard Bilstein HD and B8 is the "Sport Tuned" version, no idea what that entails, HD's were always pretty badass to begin with on most of the trucks I had them on.

Honestly at those prices, you are better off investing in coilovers. If your sticking with a lowering spring and strut/shock upgrade, go with the FE5 stuff on rockauto.com.

Who knows John Powell might try them out with his YYZ springs.

I'd be interested in seeing a review of them, always had high praise of bilstein, I just never really expect much from struts/shocks that are to be considered "OE replacement". There is a noticeable difference from monroe to kyb/sachs to bilstein/koni. I will NEVER buy another monroe product ever again, even the guys at the local mr tire were like, we never recommend monroe products to customers.

I'm not going to lower my car the roads are horrible enough. I like the description of the yyz v1 springs but I don't think they're available anymore.

the v1's arent, because they are on version 5 or 6 or something lol just PM powell, id highly recommend them if you're looking for a good ride with minimal lowering. Paired with the FE5 struts and shocks its an excellent combination.

Didn't the V1's lower about 0.5", whereas the V2 and later lower about 1.25"?

cobaltss#01 10-21-2014 03:08 PM

that's why I was more interested in the v1.

cobaltss#01 10-21-2014 03:10 PM

there was a set that came up for sale a little while ago but I didn't have the funds to buy them.

I don't think any of the powell springs lower more then an 1" at best, but you would have to consult powell about that. His springs are designed exclusively to be street/track friendly so regardless of which version you get they shouldn't give you any issues with roads. I run CM springs on my car on jersey roads, which are literally mine fields of potholes and unpaved uneven road surface, they are 1" in the front and .5" in the rear on an SS, don't think powell's are any lower. Here's how my car sits on CM, every powell YYZ car ive seen sits higher.
