H&R and Sportlines Comparison

Ok... I wanna get a nice drop on my SS... I do like the drop on the Sportlines, but the H&R springs give you more of a drop.. The thing I can decide is if these H&R springs give you an even drop.. Comparing the pictures it seems as though the H&R's are front is a little lower then that back.. So the car sorta still sits on a slant like it does stock.. Meanwhile the Sportlines give a even drop all around.. If this is the case of the H&R springs, Then I will just stick with the Sportlines as I want a even drop all around.. I want the car to sit level rather then higher on one end..

If anyone else can shed some light on these it would be great.. I would really like to get the HR springs cause of the amount of drop they provide.. But I wanna see if it's look the picture making it look like they are uneven. .Or if they acutally are uneven.. My car is getting lowered this week so I need to find out soon..

Thanks

i vote H&R, H&R will give u a more performance ride.

justfo1d 03-28-2006 02:18 PM

off topic a little, but helpful nonetheless..

how do H&R work with otherwise stock suspension? ..how is the ride and handling?

PlaysWitCars 03-28-2006 04:39 PM

I was thinking of getting rid of my sportlines and getting the H&Rs. id like my car a little lower with my 19s on

I'll take them if the price is right :)

distillion 03-28-2006 04:49 PM

shiat, the H&Rs look good, that is pertty much my exact car hmmm.
but im still worried about the ride and handling when it comes to putting lowering springs on stock struts, i can sit here and list the nightmares i had with my cavalier, i know the stock shocks are good...but for how long and what else may go wrong other than the shock, like bearings, strut mount plates, ect...

HackAbuse 03-28-2006 04:52 PM

What nightmare :(

distillion 03-28-2006 04:57 PM

strut bearings makin all kinds of sounds, all strut mount plates cracked and making a horrible noise, bouncy like a mofo, some un identified creeks and cracks lol, just a pain and these were on kyb struts, ya not the greatest of strut but u get my drift.

IonNinja 03-28-2006 05:49 PM

damn those H&R's look like they really slam the car and kind of give it a raked look

2K5SS/SC? 03-28-2006 05:59 PM

I wanted the H&R's, but they look a little low for my taste now. A couple years ago maybe, but I also like some manuverability over speed bumps and such. I think the sportlines look more even too. I dunno, I'll bit the bullet one way or the other.

QuikFKR 03-28-2006 06:06 PM

I'd personally pick the H&R's cuz they look so good, but you can say bye bye to the front air dam that's for sure.

PlaysWitCars 03-28-2006 06:39 PM

thats why ive always like coilovers over springs becuz of the adjustments you can make but coilovers are so freakin expensive

90BerettaGTZ 03-28-2006 10:02 PM

What I wanted to know if the H&R's give a level drop...

I want my car to be level all around... Like the sportlines do.. Only with a bigger drop

wikkymaster 03-28-2006 10:07 PM

sportlines for SS's or any with lips, H&R's for us without lips that can afford to be lower without having to rip stuff off when we drive

90BerettaGTZ 03-29-2006 09:14 PM

Well

I have decided to get the Eibach Sportlines.. They are being installed tomorrow while my car is in the shop getting some other things...

There is several reason why I choose these springs.

1) If I get a bodykit for this, I am sure they will be lower to the ground then stock. So this way they are a little higher off the ground

2) it's only about .5" and 3/4" lower (The H&R)

3) If I want wider tires, I am sure that with the lack of wheel gap on the H&R springs. They will probably rub..

4) I prefer to have a car that is lowered with a nice stance and leveled out.. Rather then a car that is a little lower but isn't leveled out.. Although the H&R's look nice cause the car is lower.. I prefer to have the best of both worlds.. I like how a car sitting level all around looks..

I have other reason.. But those are really the most important...

Sportlines :twothumbs, H&R are good springs but to low for me. road here will tare my car apart.

ROBSS05 03-29-2006 09:38 PM

whats up everyone just purchased h and r springs and going to install next weekend but i had a ? about the stock struts, will the stock struts be alright for this application or will i have to get aftermarket struts and if i would be better with aftermarket struts any ideas on a company to go with thanks

AnEmIc 03-29-2006 11:30 PM

imo, i like H&R because teh drop gives you more of an aggressive look stance. but like some others mentioned it all depends on where you live and what roads you drive on. also on teh cobalt with teh H&R springs what type? the sport ones or the race ones?
also i know you said if you get a bodykit but wouldn't you want to put the kit on first so you know how much you want/need to drop it rather than lowering it first and then put on the kit.
just some of my input but either way it will still look nice

90BerettaGTZ 03-29-2006 11:41 PM

Well there is no kits out right now that I really like yet.. I don't want a ricey kit.. I want a nice flowing aftermarket kit.. Alot of people will say all kits are ricey and stuff.. But that's not tru.. They only reason they say that is cause its not stock from the manufactor.. But ya.. I am waitin for a nice flowing kit to come out made of urethane not fiberglass.. Nothing is yet to come out.. And I am sure it may take awhile..

The sportlines are extremely huge drop.. So even when kits do come out. I don't think that it will be bad.. I mean it will probably be low.. But not to the point where I can't drive.. From the looks of the HR springs a aftermarket kit would be low..

I am gonna try out the sportlines for now.. See if I like the drop of them in person.. If not then I will just pick up a set of HR's later and put them on.. It's all trial and error.. If you don't like them just sell them and pick up new springs.. Sure you may loose money on the deal.. But my view is.. The car is so new that not many people are upgrading them.. So to try and find people with a certain job is harder..

But to be honest.. I prefer the level look... I don't know why but I just don't really like have a higher backend.. But I mean I like them both so much it hards to decide really.. What made me choose easier between the 2 was the fact that... I got a good deal as far as I am concered.. I am getting them installed and alignment done with springs for $600CDN.. So thats just a little over $500amr.. So I mean I think that's pretty good.. Considering alignment is like $100.. the springs around me are sellin for like $450 or so...

So I mean it was easy really.. Cause the car is getting some other stuff done to it as well.. So he can do this in the meantime.. So when I pick up my car on Saturday.. It will be lowered and painted.. And then off to the alarmshop
