Off road / rally car

I have searched all over online. Found this site. If this topic has been covered, my apologies. Please direct me to the link. I'm looking into offroad suspensions for the cobalt. I'm not into the rally racing, however I do drive my car aggressively. I spend a lot of time on gravel and rough terrain. I am a python hunter in south florida. Looking to upgrade my cobalts suspension to suit my cause. Any advice?

1-2 inches of lift would be helpful. Any of you suspension experts have any ideas? I can fabricate and weld. Want it street worthy as well though.

cobalts were never used as a rally car, there will be very limited info on what you want to do. just off theory though the front would be as simple as making a strut hat spacer to go between the top of the strut and the strut tower, basicly the same idea as a leveling kit for a coil sprung 4x4 truck. axle angles is what would limit the amount of lift in the front. for the rear you would need to get either a taller spring or come up with a spring spacer of some sort, along with a longer shock.

keep in mind none of the suspension components of a cobalt are designed for any rally type driving. pretty well any damper you put in it will have a very short life span. id also be concerned about the structure around the strut towers and around the rear suspension mounting points, i think it would be best to seam weld everything possible to keep the car structurally sound for this type of abuse.

Yeah basically what Sharkey said. You would just have to space everything up as there is not really any suspension designed for this type of driving.

My buddy just got a Ion Redline and wants to lift/rally it. Did anyone figure this out?

I see there were a few ion's that actually rally'd and there was a concept. I was thinking maybe using stock Ion springs may be taller than the RL ones... Just to give the look, not have better handling.

Some have done it, I assume mostly hacked or custom.
