Guys, I'm glad you like the site, but the wholesale copying of web pages here is not on.

Under the laws of Fair Use, you are allowed to cite passages (like you do for school papers) and small quotes are OK, but big chunks like this are not kosher.

Moderator, please edit the OP and pare down the text copied.

Thank you for the prompt response.

I hate being a dick about this stuff, but the nature of copyright law is such that if you do not aggressively defend the copyright, you lose it. So I have to keep this sort of stuff on a tight leash.

Please do enjoy the site - it is there to teach, and I encourage sharing of the links. But, aside from "far use" citation, please refrain from copying the material.

I promise you the site is not going away.

This seems like valuable information, and fair use dictates that portions of a text can be copied. In order to provide this thread with some substance, and promote your site's article, I'd like to make a friendly agreement that you will allow our member's to post portions of this article.

Dennis, nice to see you chimed in here. Just wanted to say that I've enjoyed reading your site for many years now.

Quite frankly, I'm not at all inclined to strike any deals.

The laws of Fair Use allow for small quotes for citation purposes - to back up a point, or to highlight a specific topic.

For example, suppose all y'all were discussing springs. You could do something like:

"Here's DG's take on spring brands:

While we're on the topic of "picking springs", I am of the opinion that there is only one spring provider worth a damn - Hypercoil. Of all the springs I have tested ... ...the only springs that reliably tested in spec were the Hypercoils. The worst offenders were the no-name purple springs that come on JICs; I saw 25% variation on some of these.

Quoted from Autocross to Win (DGs Autocross Secrets) - Suspension
"

Small quote, supports an argument, properly cited - perfectly within the law of Fair Use. And you don't need any special permission from me to do this sort of thing.

But as far as allowing larger excerpts... all that does is move my material off my site (where it generates my pageviews, my ad referrals, and my revenue stream) to your site - and you get the revenue. That's not Fair Use - and it's not fair, either.

I have bandwidth and hosting costs to cover, and A2W isn't exactly a cash cow. I basically pull in enough to cover costs and that's about it. I can't afford to donate revenue to other sites.

I suppose if you wanted to licence the content we could make a deal.... but to be honest, I update things frequently enough that keeping track of multiple versions on multiple sites would quickly become annoying for everybody. It's probably best if we just stick to Fair Use.

I am happy that people enjoy the site, and thanks to everybody for the kind comments. More is always coming; I'm going to get around to that weight transfer chapter any day now....

DG
