Lowering the SS S/C questions
Ok, just got my SS S/C last weekend and I love it. But, I do want to lower it, but just a little bit. I have been going through pages and pages about different lowering spring options, and it's just making my head spin. Here is what I want:
I want the ride to be as close to stock as possible, I hate cars that bounce all over the place and feel like they are going to fall apart when you hit any little bump in the road.
I want to lower the back at most 1" and the front at most 0.5". I really just want the get the back a little bit lower so it sits level with the front (wheel gap wise).
Price isn't too much of an issue, but I don't want to spend $1000 on coilvers, so I want to go with just springs.
Any help would be much appreciated!!!!

Buy a set of Eibachs, just install the rear springs and sell the fronts. That is what I did. Leveled out the car just like I wanted it too and it still rides pretty good.

well i dont know of any springs that will lower the front only .5"
however there are a few springs that dont drop the car dramatically.
H&R srings drop the rear an inch and the front just over an inch, they are also designed per vehicle so they have different spring rates for each application, giving it a "good" ride.
Eibach Pro-Kit drops the car about the same as the H&Rs how ever they drop the rear a little more which gives the car an illusion as if the rear is lower than the front when infact they are even with eachother. The bad thing about Eibach is they have the same spring rates for every car.
Tein's are like the Eibachs, they come in 2 different levels, H and S tech, i forget which one has the biggest drop.
If money is an issue, you can get Teins probably the cheapest, how ever it rides comparable to the eibachs, I personally have the H&R's, still in the box waiting for the snow to stop falling.
H&R will run you 250-300 depending on where you buy it/shipping, the other springs you can get closer to 200, if not under if they are on sale.

I saw them, but I noticed how it doesn't drop the front at all, which is probably okay with me. That won't cause any problems mixing and matching springs like that? I would think it would be better off just to install all 4 and then sell the stockers?

dont install 2 lowering springs and keep the stockers in the front, thats retarded. Why would you want to have the rear stiffer than the front, your gunna kick the rear end out, thats what a hacker would do.
I hope your car is a show car only, then I can see slight reasoning behind that.
I would think the rear sits lower than the front with just rear lowering springs.

I think I'm going to go with those Eibachs above...after looking at the car more and more I just want the ass end down another 1/2" or so. The front is sitting pretty much just where I want it...

Eibach makes 2 sets of springs for the cobalt....the pro-kit which lowers the front none and the rear 1/2"...and the sportlines which lower it more all the way around. According to many on this site, they ride pretty similar to stock. The SSCs also have great reviews. I have the H&Rs which ride great, but as many know, there is some low rpm vibrations that they create and some binding. I personally am not bothered by it, but for most, I would recommend the Eibach sportlines since they have always had positive reviews on here and give the car an aggressive look without going "too" low. Eibach is a very reputable company, so I have no doubt their product is top quality. Good luck!
