Retro fit brake calipers??

Has anyone ever retrofitted calipers on to their cobalt? I was thinking i could upgrade my brakes as i have the base model single piston caliper up front and drums on the rear. I was considering brembos up frnt fron the SS/TC, but was working on a saturn vue the other day and noticed the brakes up front are dual piston and thought i could buy some new rear cheap and swap them into my car.

basicly wondering if there are any cobalts with retrofitted brakes other than brembo swaps and fe5 swaps.

I think the hardest part would be finding the correct rotor diameter and offset for the brakes you would want to use. Even if they mounted to the knuckle they may not use the same diameter rotor based on where they mount in correlation to the center of the hub.

I think it would be much easier to put brembos on, they arent terribly expensive.

As far as the rear the best bet is to get a torsion beam that already has the correct mounts for the rear disk setup, thats basically the only way to do it.

Why bother trying to reinvent the wheel? Why not just go to zzp and buy one of their Brembos kits? 4 pistons and you can go with a 12.25" or 14.5" rotors.

Coming up with your own swap just seems like it would be a giant pain in the ass waste of time when there are already kits out there. Aside from finding parts that fit, you'll have to get custom brakets to hold whatever caliper you end up going with. The kits on the market have that r&d done for you.

If youre 4 lug you can swap to fe5 lsj brakes and use a mini cooper rotor so you dont have to change your hubs.

^ this. OP does mention that it's base model with the single piston design.

OP if your a 5 lug you can swap over to the LSJ up front without serious changes, I did that swap on my base model and it was easy and straight forward.

I'm fairly certain John Powell makes a Brembo conversion kit for the base models.

I have a SSBC conversion kit for your rear drums I'm looking to get rid of if you are interested. I can include stainless lines all around if you like as well

Thanks everyone, it does seem like too much work but was thinking of lsj brakes before. The mini cooper rotors sounds like it makes the swap even easier.

and yes it is a base model, 4 lug. But i dont think ill be upgrading brakes or anything on the car anymore. Thinking of getting rid of it and upgrading to something else.
