Urgent info needed for strut question..
Hey guys,
Looking to buy the FE5 SS t/c struts from CED this weekend. I've got the FE3's right now with Sportlines. If I but the exact kit in the picture, nothing more, can I simply remove the FE3's, swap the Sportlines onto the FE5's, and reinstall? Or do I need to buy more stuff / use parts from the FE3's? Cobalt FE5 Struts and Shock Pkg FE5-S - Crate Engine Depot Anything else I should do while I'm under there and it's all apart? I'm still all stock suspension aside from the Sportlines and a DC strut bar.. Stock FE3 SS.. Thanks! |
You won't need anything else, just whats sold there.
|
Word, no top pieces or anything?
Anything else I should address while under there? |
I did not need anything when I swapped my stock LS set up for the TC struts and shocks.
I would guess somewhere in here has confirmed what you are asking but I'm pretty sure they will literally bolt in place for you. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/susp...m4-jl9-137064/ |
That's not what I'm asking at all. I know they will. I'm asking if I need anything part-wise to install them. Such as when you install Koni Yellows that you need to borrow pieces from your old struts. I just want to validate this is a buy online, receive, bolt off, bolt on, drive away type deal..

Sounds good. But anything else I should do while under there? Sways, bushings? Anything not too costly?
|
I think you need to swap your top hats over. I dont think CED includes those.
If your looking for other good, cheap upgrades? Moog endlinks. They are like $60 from rock auto Prothane sway bar bushings |
Top hats? The guys on the top with the 3 bolts? Is that easy to swap over?
|
Well, if you managed to put the sportlines on yourself, then you should be able to swap the top spring mount and hat over. The most important thing is that the tab is facing directly opposite of the mounting tab on the other side. You MUST turn this while the spring is still compressed.
|
I looked into the end-links. Looks good. Which ones do I need if I have the FE3 currently but am going to FE5?
I also heard that the OEM bushings are better than the poly ones. This true? If not, which poly ones should I look into? FE3 sway bars.. Lastly, steering rack spacer. Looking to get the tall one to install to eliminate my bump steer. Solid choice? How hard is it to install all of this? I wanna do it all at once.. Thanks! |
Steering rach spacer is nothing, takes like 10 minutes, i fyou can remove and reinstall two bolts your good.
|
I can do that. haha Is that Sonething that you can do by simply jacking the car up and doing real fast, or is alot of stuff I'n the way, hence it being easier to do with shit removed?
|
The only real issue is rear tranny mount clearance and fitting your hands around the lower subframe.
|
I'm auto. Better or worse for this?
|
Its not that hard. Jack the car up, loosen the rear tranny mount, loosen both Steering rack bolts, slide the rack spacers under (recessed side up) and then go back and forth slowly tightening each one. If you crank one side down before the other, you will have issues.
AWB, if you have any questions just PM me, ive done enough of these suspensions for cars out here, haha |
Maybe I can hire you for a day? lol
