Whats the deal with Corvette rear shocks?
Saw a bunch of people talking about this on the FB page, 1980 Corvette has a Monroe shock that will bolt in with some slight modification and is shorter and better for lowering springs?!?!
Can anyone confirm that you just need to drill the hole larger and you don't need any other mods? |
how in the hell would you figure 1980s shock would work?
try it, doubt they are that expensive. |
Buy the Koni yellows or the new Bilsteins

I didn't ask about either one of those.
Anyways they are $60 new for a pair and a couple guys said they work well. |

Arent monroe shocks shit? Your getting a pair for $60 so the quality is probably garbage.
|
Yeah I wouldn't count on a Monroe shock performing better than the OEM...
|
You guys are missing the point. It doesnt have to be a monroe model. Hes saying corvette shocks from a certain year range will work on our cars. Shorter is better, stiffer is also better.

Just an example I saw and the reference to perform much better than not only FE5's but a guy replaced his Stance rears and liked them better.

had a look on rock auto, shocks for a 1980 corvette are between $20-$45 each. as far as performance, its likely a corvette shocks is going to be valved firmer than our stock shocks. as far as quality, monroe is gonna suck, but you can get ac delco or kyb gr2 shocks in that price range too.

Corvette rear springs seem to be in the 200-300lb area, but we don't know what the rate at the shock would be...
