Ecotec FWD Transmission Spreadsheet

Back in April, I made an Excel spreadsheet to help me with comparing the different transmissions available for install with a FWD Ecotec. I figured I'd link it here in case anyone else wanted to eyeball different transmissions, or just see how different tire sizes would affect their MPH.

I tried to put as many viable options as I could into it with the most up-to-date information; if you notice something wrong, let me know and I can update it.

It is setup so that you just select your tire size at the top of the sheet, and then the sheet will update itself with the MPH. F23's are the left column, F35's in the middle, F40's on the right.

This image is a bit screwy because I messed with the scaling, but this is essentially it.

Love datasheets. This should be a sticky.

Awesome. As a sidebar to those that may not be experienced with Excel - when you first open the file, a "Read-Only - 'Edit Workbook'" button will pop up. You must click that to change the tire size.

Also, it should be noted that the F23 from the Saturn Vue has the front trans mount in a different location and must be redrilled. I'm trying to get more information on this, but it is apparently not TOO complicated.

The Vue F23 also utilizes a jack shaft similar to the F35 Cobalt/Ion/HHR, but my current understanding is that the length doesn't allow it to be ran with any sort of Delta platform axle (it ends up being 1" too short, as I understand it - I'm still investigating). It doesn't have to be used, but having it as an option would be nice.

I had to drill out the front mounting hole on an ion f23 I put in my cobalt. I just picked up a decent vue trans too, but idk what im gonna use it for though.

Was it a 2004 Ion? My understanding was that the '04's were a little bit different across the line.

I was looking into the Vue trans, but I think I'm just going to jump on an 05-08 HHR with the 4.17FD. I've found one that can be shipped to my house for ~$350 total. It's that, or hold my breath until one shows up in DFW.

Mightve been an 04 ion. Vue trans should only be on an NA car, or maybe an m62.

Were you able to find it through LKQ?

I've found a few on LKQ, but if they aren't local, it seems there's a standard $280 freight charge.

I did manage to find an '09 HHR F23 (3.94 final) that's in SE Dallas (Hutchins), but it's also $520.

I found an '06 HHR on eBay with the 4.17 final for $359 shipped.

No mileage listed for the eBay one, but the LKQ one is at 60k, allegedly.

Not bad on the Ebay find. LKQ is a really good place to buy from. All of my LS buddies buy their engines from them. We bought a 460le transmission off of them. I forget the mileage, but man its been throw the ringer on the job. No issues at all and it has roughly 100k more miles on it.

Bumping this up, since I've been using it so much lately. I updated some small details (confirmed XFE numbers, etc).

I can't edit the original post, but I'm also going to attach the spreadsheet to this post, just in case something happens to my OneDrive link in the future.
