COT (Cat Over Temp) Protection for LNF Question
Hey everybody...
I have a LNF Cobalt with a modified GMS1 tune...changed some startup tables and removed torque management. 21 PSI. I currently have a catless downpipe. To pass inspection easily and not worry about smelling like crap all the time, I picked up a catted aftermarket downpipe (looks like a ZZP one to me). My question is...
Currently I have all COT protection disabled, due to being catless. Searching on the forum, I see some people say reenable it, and some people disable it for a catted aftermarket downpipe. Does anyone have any experience with this? I basically want to know if I should disable COT protection or not with the aftermarket catted DP.
Thanks in advance!

COT doesn't even use an actual EGT, it is all based off calculations in the computer. It adds fuel to cool down the cat once it is deemed "too hot." I leave mine off and have had absolutely no problems but I am NA.
Is this just a temporary thing to pass inspection or will it be more permanent? If it is permanent I see no harm in turning on COT except for tuning.

It's going to be a permanent solution. The main reason I was hoping to keep it off was so it doesn't hurt performance (I hear it richens it out to death to try to save the cat, thus hindering performance). I just don't want to kill the cat in the process...heh
