Different PCMs for different fuels?
I have ZZP 1.0 PCM on my 2006 Cobalt SS/SC. I was wondering if I could order another PCM setup for E85 and simply swap the PCMs out when I want to switch between E85 and premium. Of course running all the fuel out before switching PCMs.

Well HPT is ~500 for brand new. can be had for 250-350 used...... a pcm is anywhere from 100-200$. but remember you have to get that pcm tuned for e85... if you go the hpt route, you'll have to make sure you always have the laptop with you.... where with the pcm, you can just swap it while you pump gas.
If you get hpt, you can get a much more solid tune from a real tuner. Not just a canned tune.

I've done both. When still in warranty, I had the stock PCM with GMS1 on pump gas, and a second PCM with an E85 26psi tune on it. It was basically my winter and summer/track tune, respectively. When I went big turbo I sold the original PCM. Now I have a track tune again (lower boost, more radiator fans) and just load that using HPT.
Swapping PCM's was quicker, and I guess a little more glamorous (made for some interesting conversations at the gas station lol).
I don't mind using the HPT flash since I need the laptop to log my track runs anyway.
Just my $0.02

I currently do this, I have an E85 PCM and a Premium Gasoline PCM. If you can find a cheap used one and have access to HPtuners and a Tech2 then it is much easier, otherwise its probably best to buy a tuned one from ZZP.

i would say go the hpt route, thats what i did.
- you can have as many tunes as you want, you wont be limited to just 1 per pcm.
- You pay the tuner usually 1 fee, and usually nothing for update, depending on the tuner.
- Both of your tunes can be dialed in and on spot for both fuels. I have never been a fan of canned tunes due to the fact that there only purpose is to get you up and running, there is still plenty left on the table in a canned tune.
- With HPT, if you change something you just retune it and your good to go. I have done remote tuning since day one and its the best decision i ever made.
- HPT is a push of a button and will complete within in min.
- You can get hpt for a good deal if you look. Your going to want the PRO version since your an LSJ. Look on ebay, ls1 forums and other GM forums for used ones for sale.
as for the fuel switching, everyone i have talked to here in the north east has ran E85 all year long. If its tuned for correctly you wont need 2 tunes and can run it all year long. Being your in Ann Arbor, im sure the weather/winter is relatively the same as NY.
