my pricing has gone from cheep, to steep. to busy i guess.

My prices doubled in the last year too. But I'm still cheaper.

REDFOCZ 07-14-2008 11:34 PM

I think I am still reasonable, I am no longer charging $175 though  Im around $225 for LE5's and $250 for LSJ's

Josh@ottp 07-14-2008 11:57 PM

I'm now at 163 credits. My price varies by your mods and how long I have to spend on it.

Wow... people are a bit pricey for tuning...

I've been asking people to pay for the credits ($100 for most Eco's) for bolt on tunes.
If I have to tune from scratch, we work it out before hand.... but it usually involves cash and some beer. :)

Then again... this is my hobby. I don't really look to make money off it.

Once you start tuning multiple cars EVERY week and have to put up with every question those people have, the charity factor wears off.

I dyno tune too (For a little bit more $), since I have one down the street that I have access to on weekends.

I'm still 1/3 the price of the shops in my area, and I do the tuning AT those same shops.

Average tune for a car in my area (not including custom operating systems) is $750

Area47 07-15-2008 11:28 AM

mods are the big dependant on what i charge. then again, my goal was to do enough to pay for hpt, and well it has. so im good
:)

mmmm you dont want to come here to tune some cobalts??
we got LOT of beers, LOT of rum, well in fact we got a lot of anything that got alcohol (its a cultural thing i think)
....you dont tune drunk right?

coling6 07-15-2008 11:35 AM

Every time you tune the same car, like each time you access the ecm with hptuners, does that use a credit?

Or do you use a credit (2c or something for gm right) for the vehicle once and that allows you to tune it, edit it whenever without using more credits?

That's something i've never been able to figure out with hptuners.

newp. if you do what i did. unlock all 07 ss/sc's you can do them all. as long as they are 07's.

anything else requires credits to get access to the vin.

Thanks.

so.... a credit/s will unlock one vin, forever.

i assume it'll take a wack of credits to unlock an entire model year.

Depending on the vehicle... you need either 2 or 4 credits to license one ECU (VIN) (depending on model).
If you want to license all of one year/model (eg; all '07 SS/SC's and SS's), that will take either 4, 6, or 12 credits (depending on model).

For more info... check HERE.

Yo puedo.

It takes 2 credits per car, and from 6-12 credits to unlock a model for a certain year. I got lucky and was able to tune ~60 cobalts for the 6 credits since most people seem to own the 2006 cobalts.

Pretty much how I feel, I have paid my cable off and alittle more. I might tune a car here and there but I dont activley search for cars to tune.

I stopped looking for tunes around here locally a long time ago. Now I just sit back and get referral business. I paid off my cable quick, and then paid off my laptop (which later took a dump).

I think in the last 2 years I have made ~$8,000 - 10,000 on tuning and porting.

Quick question about this guys. If you use the six credits to unlock a single model year, say 2007 Cobalt SS LE5's, does that also open up the G5 GT's and Ion's for 2007?

No it would open up all 07' cobalts that we currently offer software for ie 2.0 ss/sc & 2.4, G5's & Ion's fall under their own year/model licenses.

Yeah, I am going to have to soon. I need to build up my GTO and the Diablo is not gonna do it and I will also need to tune my sons Cobalt SS.

I just wish that I could use the credits to unlock an engine intead of a Model year for our cars so I could use the same credits for my sons Cobalt SS and my G5 GT. The GTO is a no brainer as all the 2006's are the same and I could unlock that to tune several around town.
