KR on bone stock car...

i've looked around for issues with stock tunes but all i got were GMS1 results...

I just picked up the car, 2010 white SS/TC, yesterday and this morning went out and took it for a drive and after i made sure it had gotten up to temp and all i go to get on the highway... well i hit it from abotu 2500rpm and it builds boost and then falls over hard and shows 7-9* of knock retard on the screen... is the stock tune really THAT crappy from 3-4k? once its above 4k it runs awesome but boost at 3000-4000rpm really blows....

fwiw, intake temps per the display are like 95*and up today... seems to be fine untill like 8lbs of boost.

It is very common. The car is pulling timing on the new car to break in the motor a little better.

Feels like a dog right?

I think everyone had this issue.

It's perfectly normal and will go away around 1500 miles.

It'll get better with time. Did you just pick the car up? I mean how many miles are on it? You shouldnt give it any abuse till after its first oil change or 3000 miles.

Does the display show KR specifically? I wouldn't know since I have a sedan and don't get a fancy gauge. I would think that pulling timing shouldn't be shown as KR unless it was the result of the knock sensors picking up something. 9 degrees is getting rather high, especially for a car that is stock with an intercooler. Have you filled it up since you got it with premium, or are you running the gas the dealership put in it? I wouldn't be shocked if they filled it with 87.

This. Dealer's know the vehicle so well they fill it with 87 unless you tell them specifically fill it with 91+ when you pick it up.

at 800 miles right now and ive filled up with both E10 and pure gas... was reading about it having something about a break in tune for the first 1000 miles but i picked the car up with 308 miles on it already so im pretty sure it was beat on before i got it.

but basically i just need to drive it till 1500 so it'll clear up on its own?

another random thing is that in 2nd gear it'll make like 3lbs of boost and then drop back to zero at at like 2200rpm when im just driving normal... its kinda weird to have the car take off and then fall over real quick like that...

my interceptors tell me 0* of knock retard unless in revving high under full load then its 2-3* at most.

Yes you won't see an/ much KR here in a few hundred miles.

If you aren't mashing the gas, it will build boost then fall off due to the fact that it;s making more power higher in the RPMs

its the only turbo car ive ever driven thats done that is whats weird... never seen one build boost then drop off and build again... thinking of yanking the bat cable and resetting fuel trims so it will learn me and my driving since i bought the car from 3000ft up in the mountains and i live at 700ft.

then again, the other turbo cars were a modded SRT-4 and a 550hp 2v mustang with a Master Power T70 that i helped a freind piece together and build.

It's pretty normal to be honest.... my car saw 5* stock... so its nothing to worry about really. I saw 3-5* on a GM Stage 1 car too. So some knock is normal on stock... once tuned you have more control over fueling so you can make the knock go away!

Mine did the same thing, I ended up filling up with 93 octane and then pull your positive battery cable for 5 min put cable back on and try running it now. Shouldn't knock for a while. I know it's really weird, mine didnt stop until I tuned my "tip-in retard and maf percentages". Good luck

this is weird, i just got a 2010 tc and i got it with 308 on the odometer as well and am seeing up to 9* of knock not even full throttle. inlet temps were around 95-110. Im glad its gone away, cant wait to get a tune!
