P0171 Lean code on Stock SS..can it be fixed with HPT?

Hey guys,
well, intake is in and i get the famous P0171 lean code on my stock 05 SS. Now, i know the updated stage 2 tune ups the MAF sensor to 11,000 from 10,000 to fix this. Is this all that needs to be done to the stock tune to rid of the p0171 code?

Thanks!
Nate

Mines set at 12500.

Hey Matt,
How come you decided to set it at 1250? or was that what come with the tune u were talking about?

Nate

Nate

Everyone has theirs set at 12500. Seems to be the setting that works the best.

c24na 02-04-2007 10:18 PM

mmm... good to know :) Anybody else want to confirm this :)

oh.. does this just mean that its lean at idle or at more then one point? would tuning the stft's and ltft's essentially fix this and maf could be left at 10000?

Nate

mattyfinch 02-04-2007 10:21 PM

i think mine is only 11500 i should bump it.

Matty 02-04-2007 10:24 PM

Heres a thread I dug up.

well..just reflased ss to 12500, will find out tomorrow.

Witt 02-04-2007 11:42 PM

Thats a fix for a different problem. Your problem has to do with a MAF not calibrated correctly.

The fix you posted has to do with the MAF going out of range due to high airflow.

Yep. The 12500 setting won't get rid of the code.

sry to b off topic but imma be getting hp tuners soon would any of u like to help me with the tunning of my car when i get all the stuff for it?

I wonder if your problem with your wideband reading only 13 or so is related to your CEL.
Maybe your Maf is screwed.

Uhh not to sound like a dick but did any of yall read what he said ???:wtf:

He said P0171(System Too Lean (Bank 1)) not P0103 Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit High Input

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

* The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters (K&N, etc.) can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled
* There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Yah but if I remember correctly he is bone stock. Not even a CAI. (correct me if I am wrong Nate)

I stand corrected.
Witt is still right though.

yup but then everyone started talking about kicking up the MAF fail so i thought i repeat it :).

The reason I mentioned kicking it up was because he was going to set it at 11000 when 12500 would be better. I neglected to add that it wasn't going to fix his code related problem. :red:

Witt 02-05-2007 10:36 AM

If he has an Injen or similar diameter intake, multiply your MAF values by "1.15" (15%). Your PE will probably be off a bit rich at wide open throttle, but just decrease the mutliplier slightly where you need to be.

bamfnss 02-06-2007 03:59 PM

Ok, reset the ECU yesterday. Drove the car like an old lady staying out of boost and I still get the P0171 CEL.. Also monitoring KR with my Intercepter I noticed I get some knock when getting on the throttle... :(

This is on a stock GM stage 2 setup, with just Injen CAI.

Should I calibrate my MAF and multiply by 1.15? I would like to get rid of this code. I have a wideband but not hooked up yet. Anything else I should do in HP?

Don't ever take my advise without a wideband. <---Disclaimer lol

Anyways, I've noticed that Injen intakes seem to throw the MAF off by exactly 15%, however when you change that, you're gonna run really really rich in PE (like spark blowout rich), seems GM stock cal with stock intake is off by like 8-10% too lean. The 15% thing usually calibrates the MAF, don't recal it then add 15, or it'll be a mess.

bamfnss 02-07-2007 11:12 PM

Yea, im not even going to alter my PCM without having my wideband hooked up. Others have suggested multiply by 1.07 and monitor things accordingly. What to do..what to do...
