WTB Stock 08-10 Cobalt SS Suspension
 

I am working on a project for my son, we bought a 2010 Cobalt SS that is just too low for Maine Winters. Trying to swap out the cheap coil overs for used factory suspension; front struts and springs, rear springs. Thanks in advance for any help.

I would look at Rockauto you can probably get some kyb's struts and sachs shocks for the rear. For springs you could probably go with set of eibach springs the pro series kit which will bring the car back up to a stock ride height and still give you good handling performance.

OEM 08-10 SS suspension is FE5, the struts have been discontinued. There are aftermarket equivalent struts to the 08-10 FE5 suspension.

As someone else mentioned you can find KYB and other aftermarket struts, but compared to the OEM struts they would technically be a downgrade.

If the car is coilovers raise it up usually they will raise to an almost stock height.

That is partially correct but not completely about the fe5 struts. Those same struts are still in stock just under a different part number for the HHR SS. Rockauto still carries them and those are the struts I went with on my 07 G5 GT Sedan when I was restoring my suspension and they are great especially pared with my YYZ springs.

I agree with blue_viper. Just have the existing coilovers raised - they're height adjustable. You'll need to correct the alignment afterwards - specifically, the front toe.

USMC they ride really, really bad. I can try adjusting them up, just under the impression they are cheap ebay stuff.

Oh, I'm sure they are cheap eBay junk. :lol: That's the way most people seem to modify their cars these days.

But at a minimum, it buys you time to sort out and find what you're trying to find.

ZZP is a longtime supporting vendor for this car. They just came out with their own line of coilovers. Might be worth looking into, but I'm not sure how great they'll be.

If it were me, I'd buy the HHR SS dampers that were mentioned above, and combine them with the "POWELL YYZ COBALT LOWERING SPRINGS" that are on the ZZP website that I linked above. The Powell springs are from Powell Race Shop, another long time supporting vendor and the shop that actually helped to create a lot of the racecars for GM in the early days of the car (See: 2006 Cobalt SS Time Attack Unlimited car).

No problem man. Once you get proper suspension on that car you'll understand how good and capable it can truly be. I was amazed ay how much the upgrades on my G5 made to the overall handling. Yes the car feels a bit stiffer! However the tradeoff is worth IMO. Rockauto, ZZP, OTTP have been really good companies to get quality parts for the cobalt/ion/hhr/g5 platform. Plus this site has a lot of OG members still around that you can still get useful info along with just searching the site.
