*Video* SS vs Gen2 CTS-V

Was in the garage over the weekend, mocking up my giant assed Magnaflow muffler and checking clearances when I hear someone keep reving up a car. I could hear the faint sound of a blower and knew right away that it was a V2. Figured it was one of my neighbors friends but come to find out, it was my neighbor himself.

Long story short, he was getting ready to take our neighbor for a ride, talking some friendly trash and I asked him frankly "Do you want me to gap your new car too?" (He had a bolt on/tuned ATS previously). We all had a good laugh but I wasn't kidding and he knew

We had two runs, 60-140 (for me) and 55-120. The first run, I had some minor wheel spin but it didn't hold me back. The 2nd run, holy ****. This was the first time I've ever experienced this much wheel spin/torque steer from a 3rd gear pull. Neighbor did the honking...

Enjoy

Damn dude, your car really starts moving up top in that second video unless they let out. Good runs for sure.

He let out just as I was starting to get going in 4th, so it looks like a slingshot.

Yeah, his V is stock for now. He wants to do some basic mods (pulley, mid-pipe and tune) and I'm sure we'll run again.

I hear a clutch that is slipping rather than wheel spin.

Here's the log from the 2nd pull. You can see the speed following the spike in RPM. Once the tires grab, you can see the RPM and speed drop and then follow each other again.

I have other logs showing clutch slip on a 70K mile stock clutch and my previous KY setup. They look nothing like this. If it was going to slip in 3rd gear, 4th wouldn't hold either.

You posted that it was a 55mph to 120mph run.... That graph does not match what your saying. The slip / spin is at the very beginning of the run which should be 60 to maybe 70 mph. Your saying your breaking the tires loose in third gear at 109mph?

Then help me to understand.... how much of the 109 is wheel spin? 20, 30, 40mph.

Take the hump out of the speed line and figure it out.

HGT thought my clutch may have been slipping in a video I posted up and it was tire spin for me as well. If a clutch slips like that you can almost always smell it in my experience.

That's not what you said in your reply.
There's not enough data in T-Mans graph to justify anything. If that's tire spin at over 100mph I would want both hands on the wheel.

How would that graph be different if it were wheel spin?

I said I agreed with you that it seemed like a little slip, which was true, whether it was tire or clutch I was not sure at that time. However during the numerous pulls I did after that post I paid close attention and was able to confidentially deduce that it was tire spin and not the clutch because the spin only happened in lower gears and not in higher gears.

My point was you try to find thing's wrong with other people's builds, even when there isn't really anything necessarily wrong.

Not only is that not true, it is rude of you to insinuate. I enjoy looking at the different builds. I just don't have the same.. oh well, I'll just rebuild it attitude as you do.

It would help if the legend was there. HPTuners screen shots are not very helpful vs watching live data. Posting the log file would be better.
The graph looks like wheel spin. The video did not sound like wheel spin.

his cobalt is AWD so the front wheels were the clutch slipping and the rear was tire spin
