09 Sedan vs Audi R8

Had a little fun with a Audi R8 the other day on the freeway. He came flying up an on-ramp pretty quickly so I was guessing he might want to play around. He moved over to the fast lane right in front of me, so I moved in a little closer and he started to take off. I took off just after I noticed and thought to myself I was staying in pretty good.

He had to hit the brakes in traffic and moved over to the center lane, so I rolled up next to him and gave him a thumbs up. He smiled, then started to take off again but I was more ready this time. He hit it first and I down shifted quickly to 3rd and took off too. He had a decent jump but I made up the 1/2 car length jump he got on me while in 3rd, and shifting into 4th I pulled a little more and had a little more than 1/2 car length on him when we hit the brakes I guess around 115.

I am sure it was just the 8 cylinder (looked it up online), but those are 420hp and trap around 110-112 typically. I was surprised but not astonished that the Cobalt ran that well. I have had it about 6-7 months now and it has felt strong. My last car was a 320whp 2500lb MR2 and this car still felt pretty fast. I am stock except a drop in K&N, ZZP IC, and self tuned on HPT (93 octane tune at 23-24 psi peak).

He would have killed me from a dig with all wheel drive, but he weighs a good 500 lbs more, so the 420hp was not quite enough for him (R8 is heavier than I thought when I looked it up, at 3500lbs or so). But his eyes were pretty big when I pulled a bit in front on the highway. Chalk up another win for the Balt camp!

Crazy I had the same exact thing happen to me tonight! We made 2 pulls from 2nd, both of which he jumped, he was just as surprised, cool dude too. I was too focused on the road but it had to be a difference of at least a length or two. FWIW I'm on E, but definitely happy with the cobalt!

Nice win. Would love E also, but not convenient for me. I am surprised how well this car runs for 143k miles and still on the original clutch! Previous owner did most of it on the highway. I do have to ramp carfefully and probably give up 20-25wtq in the mid range.

I have thought about meth inject which worked wonders on my MR2. Just need to figure out how to have the tune run with/without it easily without reloading the tune for each one separately. n

Glad to hear the car is still running strong.

Define not convenient, running an e47 blend will net you slightly lower fuel mileage but if it's a 10-15min drive out of your way totally worth it.

E 47 is so worth that short of a drive.

When I first logged a 4.2 second 60-100 (I'm @5,400 feet) a few years back, I was looking for a reference point of whether that was fast. The one I liked the best was the Audi R8 V10, which takes 4.8 seconds. AT SEA LEVEL!

I'm guessing you are in the 3's now.

3's aren't feasible at our altitude, at least not with the 6758...
At sea level people with my mods have ran 3.5's :)
