09 turbo vs. 500th camaro

ok mods in sig

so I was drivin to get some food on the freeway when I saw a new camaro coming up on me fast. I slowed down a little and waited for him.. then I was this!! 2010 Camaro Indy 500 pace car entering limited production — Autoblog I will post a pic I took of the car with my phone when I was drivin later...
so I tried to race him but him and his buddy never looked over so after a few miles there was an opening and I flew past him at 120 then slowed down to 60..then we were side by side and he took off and then I did....man a v8 is power now and it had a good jump but at 110 we were side by side and at 130 I had a car!

it was sweet we had a few pulls and I won everytime all in all it was sweet.

say what u want....

I would also like to know more about this car

beast10007 04-24-2011 01:07 AM

was this a good kill?

SSSnoop 04-24-2011 01:17 AM

I don't know - sounds like the Camaro needed a serious driver mod! Most of the car's mods are graphics, but it still should be able to do the quarter at 13.4 second quarter mile @ 108 mph or so, and has over 400 hp on tap. It ain't THAT heavy!!!

If you did him in well, then I'd give you righteous kill.

The new Camaro's losing to tuned LNF's is old news.

Good kill OP.

108mph? OP's numbers on a Mustang Dyno wouldn't have a problem hitting that.

Kyle4236 04-24-2011 10:52 AM

Still fun just like when I beat the new 5.0. for a stock car they're both fast as hell

07SuperchargedSS 04-24-2011 10:56 AM

wtf is a 500th Camaro...title should have been Indy 500 Camaro...just sayin

SSSnoop 04-25-2011 08:41 PM

108 in the quarter is nothing new, and yes a tuned LNF can take them, but here's the poop - a 2SS has 426 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque versus OP's dyno'ed three-something on both. Add in a 5 speed versus the six the Camaro has, and I'm thinking the pace car was not shifting right at speed, because he should run a 'balt right out of gear. That 6.2 has a tabletop flat torque curve. Seems like a driver mod is necessary to me.

I could imagine the auto losing - I know they're down on the hp/torque numbers, and the added drivetrain loss it may make him a bit of a target. I'm still having trouble thinking the extra weight in the 2SS is going to negate that high-end charge the Camaro has.

08inBama 04-25-2011 08:44 PM

i'm 5-0 vs 2010+ Camaros(well actually more than that, i've ran 5 different cars, most with multiple pulls), and only ran one automatic...

my last encounter with one was last night

the best one was my brother's supervisor, not long after he got the car he was talking it up to my brother(who has a LS1 Trans Am that would is cammed, bolt-on, etc. and would thrash his LS3), my brother pisses him off by telling him not only does he not want to race the TA, a turbo Cobalt that his brother owned would beat him as well... this talk went on for about 3 weeks then one Saturday we all went ATV riding and he showed up in his Silverado(obviously to haul his ATV), we all leave out close to my house and so he saw my car in real life for the 1st time, after hearing him talk up the new Camaro for a couple of hours I finally just told him we'd run them that day... we finally did, I beat him from a dead stop, from a 20 roll, from a 40 roll, and finally from a 60ish roll all the way until I backed out about 130 to finally just say "look man, you're slower"

and here is the truth, a LS3 Camaro has 365whp yet weighs 3900lbs, a tuned/bolt-on Cobalt has 310-315whp yet weight 2850lbs.... this shouldn't be a shocker, theyll jump us off the line through 1st and into 2nd, by the top of 2nd we're back even, by the top of 3rd its a steady pull.............all the way until you want to shut them down

obviously you need the driver mod which I'm fairly certain a good portion of this board lacks... so yeah, I could see a LNF losing this race quite often... but if you can get your car off the line, a stock LS3 has nothing for us bolt-on/tuned

and if you're not a believer in that, ask some of the Bama guys how I did against a tuned/intake 5.0 which is a lot faster than a LS3

The Camaro weighs roughly 1000lbs more. It takes about 60-75whp to overcome that, and the Camaro doesn't have that big of a whp advantage over the OP's numbers.

Edit: Re-read the OP's dyno numbers. Stock LS3's dyno 360-380whp depending on where you are so the race is pretty much what should have happened.

Supercharged Guy 04-25-2011 10:04 PM

Good kill OP :twothumbs

Does the ZZP tune remove the limiter? The 2SS is capable of 170. That's normally how I end the story when I'm challenged in my Z28 - I just keep accelerating....

You don't remove the limiter, you simply move it up to a speed your car simply can't make it to. A common speed people bump it to is 250.

utsadude 04-26-2011 01:42 AM

I was unaware street racing was legal now... And obviously such a promoted topic here too...

MastaShaKe_88 04-26-2011 01:46 AM

o shit, i saw one of those a lil whiles back jus drivin around over here  I followed him for a couple blocks, but I thought it was jus paint/stickers that he did himself... maybe he was a fan.. meh..

seriously? if you think people with performance compacts might not race them from time to time in situations that sometimes aren't legal... you probably aren't on the right forum....

i'm not promoting getting out there fast and furious style with other traffic around, but what happens on a highway with no other cars around or out in BFE at midnight in a deserted area isn't a huge concern with me

in fact I will say the most popular place to race here has been the same place for the last 20 years, cops don't mess with us out there because they'd rather us be out there in the middle of nowhere racing, than in town... they tried to crack down about 10 years ago, didn't like the consequences and backed off... especially considering all our drag strips got closed because of the increase of insurance for them, they couldn't afford to stay open... and as long as there are cars, people are going to race.... legally or not

Oh, come on - do I have to be that specific? Sheesh!

Should have said "does the ZZP tune "effectively" remove the limiter?!?!!?

---

As for the other posts talking about promoting illegal racing, I don't know if this discussion promotes illegal racing as much as the hundreds of previous posts with video of racing, or the other hundreds of posts talking about SS kills on other makes/models....

Street racing is dangerous and illegal, but of course about 90% of us have done it at one time or another. The best thing to do is to remind everybody to drive with their heads, and use common sense, and never do this kind of stupidity where somebody else can get hurt or killed. :twothumbs

You'd be surprised at how many people on here would have no clue. By explaining it I just avoid having an additional question about explaining it. Not trying to be an ass about it.

beast10007 04-26-2011 10:33 PM

yea my rev is set to 220 lol I will never go that fast because I dont think my tires can take that lol

thanks guys and this racing was done in Mexico duh lol
