440 Powered Plymouth...vs 09 SS Sedan?
Hehe...
Actually the Plymouth is my brothers car. I live in Arizona... He lives in Ohio. This summer I had a 2 month paid sabbatical from work so I took that opportunity to drive with my 17yr old son across the US. We took Route 66 for the Arizona part of it. When we got to Ohio my brother kept asking me to 'run em'. I didnt really want to because I already knew his car did mid 12's. I'm not exactly sure on his stats but he did have it dyno'd before he left Arizona. (He moved back to Ohio about 4 years ago) His HP - approx 400 at wheels His Tq - approx 480 at wheels He's got this auto transmission (I know nothing of this so I'm going to look stupid now describing it) anyway it's like a 6-speed auto tranny. It's got like a high/low for each gear... I'm not sure but it's a cool ratchet shifter. So we didn't do from a dig because I thought that would have been a complete disaster... We did from about 20-30ish on. 1st run he just left me because my turbo wasn't spooled up at all. 2nd run was interesting but again, he left me. 3rd run we started from 1st gear rolling... This was very interesting. I actually pulled him in 1st, 2nd but as soon as I hit third...it looked like I put the brakes on..he passed me like I missed a gear (I used NLS for all of them). but as we approached about 120mph I started to catch him again. We both backed off at about 135ish with him about 4 or 5 car lengths ahead. I knew I didn't stand a chance but it sure was cool trying. Below are just a few pics of my car and his. Speedo indicated 150 about half-way across this. http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/307/dsc0638z.jpg View 1 of my brothers car. http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/279/picture645g.jpg View 2 of his car. http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/6773/picture643a.jpg The BEEF...440 cubic inches. http://img60.imageshack.us/img60/3863/dsc0798.jpg Hope you enjoyed! nice, sub'd for pics.
Edit: wow very nice rides. you've got some nice open road there for a nice runs don't you. |
It was a blast... No 'troopers' for miles. My Escort kept me fairly well informed for our entire trip.
I almost got the laser jammers but opted out. These cars are smooooth at a buck-fifty. |
Ooops
|
That 440 looks like a small block.
|
awesome.........and MORE pix!!!
Is that a 4-door SS? Looks good in black! |
Hey Jackalope, thx for responding. Nope, it's a 440 all the way. My brother is a Mopar freak... He's built a whole bunch of 'em. His 1st build was a 383 back when he was 18. He's 40 now..and been doing it since back then. The nice part about his car is it's not just setup for a straight line. It handle's pretty well too.
As for my car..yeah its' a sedan. There are a few more pics in my profile but I can post a few more here if you like. Both of mine and his. Ok here are some more pics of both the motor (Yes its' a 440), the trip (Route 66 across the US) and my car. Here's a pic of his motor w/out valve covers http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/5789/440onstand2.jpg Another view on the motor stand http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/5883/440onstand1.jpg Another with it a little more complete. Nice pulleys eh? http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/9060/440onstand3.jpg Another view of my car..just before packing it. Yeah it's basic and stock. I've got the stage kit..just waiting on the codes to be authorized. http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/5798/dsc0156e.jpg http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/2087/dsc0158b.jpg Stopped for Lunch http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/8785/dsc0315c.jpg RICER CHOO CHOO? http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/5471/dsc0218r.jpg It was hot...That's the outside temp..not the coolant! :-) http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/8625/dsc0296h.jpg More Rout 66 pics... http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/8852/dsc0432u.jpg http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/4193/dsc0493w.jpg http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/4288/dsc0563r.jpg Taking a 'break' http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/3693/dsc0572.jpg Great views http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/6329/dsc0577atc.jpg The end of the day...at RoadKill Cafe http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/8074/dsc0647e.jpg Cheers guys! |
Wow i'm a mopar man and that volare is BAD ASS!!! I haven't seen too many mopar F bodies with big blocks, thats just insane.
|
my dad has a 440 roadrunner and those are no joke
|
So since you're a MOPAR man can you confirm (I already know, but Jackalope was not sure about it) that this IS indeed a big block? (I know it's a 440)
|
ya its def a big block although the intake and color of the car with the motor in it does look deceiving. my dad also has a 383 but ya my dads kinda nervous about getting on it cause of the power and he has a better rear end sitting in the garage that changes the gears so hell get even more power. crazy shit and those cars are so easy to work on....
http://picasaweb.google.com/moeville...26171963165170 we built that car from scratch practically |
Very nice! I have always wanted to go travel 66.
|
thats why i wanna drive 66 but noone i know wants to go because they dont get it. its not any fun to go alone. i wanted to grab 4 of us and try to make the trip in a 60's orange VW beetle my uncle has.

We enjoyed the Arizona part of it. It's the longest stretch of continuous (uninterupted by new highway) route66 still in existance. From Kingman Arizona up through peach springs and on into Seligman. That long road you see is between Peach springs and Seligman. The curvier roads are from Oatman Arizona to Kingman. Oh and that movie "Cars" was sort of based on Peach Springs. (Radiator Springs in the movie) Cheers, Buzz |
I guess I'm used to seeing 426 Hemi's but it doesn't look like it from the pics. Must be like you said the color makes it decieving. Badass car regardless.
The Ricer CHOO CHOO looks like its from a mine of some sort judging by its narrow gauge and mine car looking wheels. I wouldn't try to steam it back up tho as it'd blow up! |

|
OMG those roads look like fun :)
|
It was a blast guys. I used to doubt that this car would do 150... But both the GPS and the Speedo were indicating it. I don't think you have to guess which road.. :-)
