Called out by a 392 challenger
Yeah the new Vette Z will make this a distant memory..... Makes a little less power but is literally 800lbs lighter. The Hellcat is coming in at 4200+ compared to 3400ish on the Z06. It won't be even close, the only issue as with most high powered vettes is getting it to the ground.
The C6Z will beat the current GT500's stock for stock, use that as a gauge for the road rape to come!

The GT500 has a slightly underrated engine and is usually between 680-690 ish in actual output.
With some nice sticky tires im sure the new Z will put it down well.
It's more of a drivers race. Driver mod will prevail, highway probably the GT500 with all equal factors involved like you said. The Z06 is much more expensive, but the fact it's an NA V8 vs a supercharged V8 and it's that close is an accomplishment. The track is the Z06s true home, it just happens to be fast as hell in a straight line also.
why the hell are people still comparing corvettes to challengers? apples to oranges.
corvette should only ever be compared to the viper..
the challenger wasn't made to compete with the corvette people so who cares if it's slower? anyone with a brain knows that there is no comparison. high HP or not..
People will buy it because it's a nice muscle car with the highest HP numbers.. that's it.. not because they expect it to be the fastest car out there..

Id guess its price. People as guessing this thing might be 60k+ so from a "what can i buy with my money" point of view they are in the same category.
I do agree they are different flavors of the same thing. Also the only vettes comparable to the Viper are the c6 zr1 or the c7 z06.
I think one of the problems with Chevy is the way the vette is marketed,or more so the way they market other cars around the vette. you have the camaro and Vette whos prices overlap by quite a bit, i think the only thing stopping chevy from making a 600 or 700hp camaro is that they would rather you move up to the flagship.

Like almost all dodge owners, the douchebags will flock to the hellcat and go 0-100-0 from every light, only to write it off in the first corner.
if I wanted a boat, I'd take my boat to the lake.
Yea the 1970's is long gone, no one gives a **** about light to light racing, and the days of 4000 pound lead sleds are behind us.

First off, these "boats" have no problem keeping up to lighter cars that should be faster.
Secondly, if these "lead sleds" were behind us then they wouldn't still be selling like they are. They still do because people buy cars like this to relive the good old days.. when cars were big and mean and had some originality. When they were made of materials that were strong and built to last. not plastic junk to save some weight and increase fuel mileage.
if noone gave a f**k about light to light racing then the police wouldn't be cracking down on street racing. 90% of this forum believes the only way to race is from a dig.. 99% of the vids posted by forum members in the war stories section are in a straight line race, not on a race track so your argument had no validity.
newsflash .. not everyone cares about handling because we're not all aspiring race car driver wannabes. some of us just like to feel the G-force from getting up to speed quickly.
In case you have forgotten, everything you described that is so wrong is what american muscle cars were all about. if you want a car that's light and has good handling .. go enjoy the ride to your lake in your corvette and let the rest of us enjoy the hellcat for what it is.. a big, mean, loud car that goes fast in a straight line and pays homage to the good ole days of detroit muscle.
obviously you have no concept of what the term "niche" means and how it applies to the car world.

id buy one in a heartbeat if i had a family to transport. but i dont so the mustang with a cramped backseat and no trunk works for me. different cars for different purposes. and why the hell do you think they cant handle. all srt vehicles have to be able to pass a 150mph emegency lane change test before dodge will sign off on the suspension
Yeah a tune and pulley and the current GT500 runs high 8s at 150 mph.
You'd be surprised how many folks will see "Highest HP #'s, blah blah" and think it'll be the fastest thing out there because the hp number is in fact.....higher. Yes, the New Z06 wouldn't be a fair comparison, but the new C7 is. So the whole apples to oranges is null and void. Both are American muscle, both would be comparable in straight line speed. The weight and handling are the biggest differences between the two.
The challenger guy still on vacation.....
soooooo who thinks the C7Z will run mid 10s???
I agree its apples and oranges but when it comes to the track, they are going to pitted against each even if it boils down buddy vs buddy for bragging rights.
Either way its effin fast and if had hellcat money i would rock it on the street

in most cases probably yes. can't screw up a shift with an auto so you will more than likely see more hellcats making the numbers they are supposed to then you will faster cars with manual transmissions driven by people who can't shift.
If it can hook it'll be 10's 130+ all day with good air, is my guess. It's very similar in specs to the ZR1 and they're a solid 10 second ride. The Auto will be the way to go for the strip!
