Cobalt LS vs. Turbo 240SX hatch
Got my first ever victory against a F.I. car this morning.
I was about 40 minutes into my 90 minute "hell" commute at around 5:45 a.m., half asleep, when at a stop light, a white older style (flip up headlights?) 240sx hatch pulled out like a hard-ass and woke me up. I didn't feel like trying to chase him so early so I just proceeded to the next stop light calmly, when at the next light he did it again, so now with my full attention, I decided to give him a go.
I pulled through the light in 2nd gear, and jumped into the right lane. As i moved to the right lane, he downshifted into 2nd as I stayed around 4,500 in 2nd and as soon as I pulled even to him I floored it (he had started to take off already) and even with a half car or so jump, I quickly shifted to 3rd and immediately pulled a car length ahead of him. He stayed about a car behind through third and when I shifted fourth I was able to pull another car or maybe car and a half in front of him, stretching it to two and a half car lengths fairly quickly through the bottom of 4th gear. I was kinda confused though, because as I hit 90 and decided to let off he had gained maybe a half of a car back and was pulling on me very slowly.
Funny thing is that at exactly the same time, he lifted, as if he was also looking for the 90 mark.
and so I merged into his lane and he proceeded to stay behind me for a few miles before turning off of the road at an intersection. It was only at that intersection he turned when I heard his blow-off valve. I must have been too groggy to have heard it before the race, but that makes a lot of sense as to why I couldn't pull away from him on the high end.
I dunno, I don't race a whole lot, but I'm pretty proud of myself for taking down my first turbo car.

Sorry about that, i used to have all of my stuff listed in my sig.
I'm an 08 ls/xfe 5 speed w/
2.4 mani, k&n sri w/ rk sport ram air hood, jet v-force tuner, iggy's TD and a tsudo cat back.
it was def. turbo, he made the right in a turning lane and made sure to blow off when he passed me...
I don't know a whole lot about nissan's other than sr20 and the rb and I honestly didn't think it was turbo til afterwards. So I'm sure what wasn't something like that...
p.s. I don't even know how to check my own VB garage...lol

why in the fugg would you buy the gas mileage car and then modd it and totally undo all the things the dealer did to make it more gas efficient!?

Uhm, my mods actually added to my efficiency. I get around 41-42mpg when I take 79 to work all week...
And all of the 5 speeds I could find are XFE, so i had little choice.
Besides the only thing that makes it an XFE is 0.10 difference in final drive ratio... So its no different than modding a non-xfe car...
p.s. I'm not going to argue with people online. I'm not lying about the race. And I don't mod my car to appease anyone...

yeah i agree.... if it was a SR or RB motor you would have got your ass handed to you.... the CA..... mmm depends... but most of those turboed nissans can really pack a punch... u 100% sure it was turboed... it just seems odd that you didnt here it when he was next to you but when he was behind you and turning off u heard the BOV

I'm reasonably (90%) sure it was turbocharged...
Not to blow my own horn or anything, but with the bigger intake manifold and the XFE gears I pull a ton on most cars through the top of third gear (4000-6200)...
... Although, I am used to racing stock cobalts and crap hondas. But I think against a weaker turbo car, maybe inbetween gears, and me in my "butter zone" I stand a chance.

a ca18det is only rated 175hp and 175 ft-lbs tq. the motor is great its just that the factory tune sucks. most cars driven in japan are forced inducted. the ca18det comes from a nissan 180sx and its meant to be a cool little sports car with some pep. so nissan gave it its tune. but when theyre tuned, then you can kiss your ass good bye. they can hold up to 400hp safely on stock internals, iron block.
