E85 '12 WRX kill

Had a fun run with a bolt-on, turbo swapped, e85 2012 WRX hatch. Not a whole lot to say other than I crept away during a 65-130 run. Pretty close but I still took the W.

Come to find out, it's the same guy that I worked with at the body shop for my previous sedan that eventually was totaled out. Small world

He was pretty salty though because he said to me "I was the guy that walked you through the disassembly of your cavalier":lol::lol:

From what I remember, he was bragging about 400 whp, built motor and that it was a monster. Guess the replacement "cavalier" didn't do too bad

I love stories like this.

Nice kill:twothumbs

user 72239 01-18-2017 01:56 PM

Lol no. E85 WRX be around 320-350 whp. 400 whp on stock turbo isn't gonna happen.

Nice kill anyway.

OP said WRX was turbo swapped

user 72239 01-18-2017 02:11 PM

oh duh. I didn't see that.

The story would have been that of needing to call 911 to report rape had it have been a stock turbo car :)

Lol subarus...

cluelessk 01-19-2017 12:11 AM

Drivetrain loss. Not a surprise from 65.

hawkssoccer11 01-19-2017 12:15 AM

I get a kick out of all these guys who turbo swap their subarus and still can't beat a damn cobalt:lol:

Used to hang out with so many kids who thought their wrx's or sti's were the fastest thing out there until they got waxed by a cobalt with bolt one and e85 haha

Nice kill OP

I'm not sure I follow this? It already experienced drivetrain loss while pumping out 400whp. It's not a linear influence in the sense that as speeds increase, further drivetrain losses come into play.

There are other influential variables that had a hand in this outcome - weight, gearing, power band - to name a few. Additional drivetrain losses? No.

Appreciate the responses guys. I too am surrounded by Subi fans that are in denial. Granted, they have very nice cars with far superior interiors than our own. I make sure to tell them as such but the fact of the matter is, our power plant and weight make for a pretty serious contender in the performance scheme of things.

Our damn cavaliers I tell ya!

AWD is terrible from a roll. plus, 2012 WRX weigh about 3300 lbs compared to the cobalts 3000. give or take a few lbs.

none the less. still a good kill.

and our interiors aren't that much better. my STi has a really annoying b-pillar rattle.

My cobalt makes less interior noise than your STi

user 72239 01-19-2017 11:08 AM

seriously. its ridiculous.

I do not follow this train of thought. The drivetrain loss is a static variable that doesn't increase as the vehicles speed increases?

I'll trade your b-pillar rattle for my "everything rattles, hurry and turn up the radio" Seriously though, this Sedan seems to be the best of the 3 with less rattles. Still there though... haha

I dont think he's saying it's drivetrain loss, its just gearing of the Subi and awd advantage over fwd is at launch so they don't have the advantage on a roll.

I also don't understand how everyones cobalt is so damn rattlely mine is damn near silent.

user 72239 01-19-2017 11:21 AM

^^ pretty much that.

the wrx has less of an issue due to the 5 speed compared to my 6 speed. I gotta shift all the fucking time

but I'll take that issue over breaking transmissions anyday

That makes sense but it shouldn't be thrown around like it's somehow a disadvantage? Sure they lose the dig or super low bakery advantage once moving but it's definitely not a disadvantage. Just like our cars are at a major disadvantage from a dig/low roll, FWD doesn't somehow become some major advantage as speeds increase. We still spinnin'! Hahaha..

Honestly, the coupes that I've driven seem to have little to no rattles. I've had 3 different sedans and all have been much worse, granted the current ride is the best of the three. Could be the difference in chassis stiffness between the two?

Now you're talking my language! I can't tell you how often I cringe just before going WOT and throwing 3rd or starting out in 3rd... :cussing:

you dont have coilovers and solid mounts

user 72239 01-19-2017 11:51 AM

I got a bigger turbo, and I NLS (subaru guys call it FFS or Flat Foot Shifting) and go WOT all the time. I dont worry about it lol.

Not throwing it around, just seems all the AWD guys bitch about roll racing because they don't have the launch advantage.

Negative on coils, I'm on Powell YYZs and his mount.

you guys are lucky. mine has soooo many rattles. and if I turn the radio up to drown them out, different rattles start to happen.

it is nice when you show up someone who's arrogant. both cars will be faster than 99% of the ones on the road and it can be fun to play around with another sporty car... on a closed track, with medical staff on hand, and professional drivers, and any other conditions I can list to deter people from doing this on a public road because we all know that's wrong, and bad.

user 72239 01-19-2017 12:08 PM

my 08 SS rattled like a boss

CM Lowering springs on stock suspension would do that to you.

Buuuutttt, even though the transmissions are stout with the 6spds this can still happen
