Golf R Vs Cobalt SS/SC

Decided to post a race from cruise night shenanigans haha. I sat out in the racing and was camera man. I'm in the golf video taping.

2012 VW Golf R with APR stage 2 tune

07 Cobalt SS/SC (yellowdragon on here) with full bolt ons, 2.6" pulley and 7gph meth injection.

Was a good race. Enjoy

Nice, now you need to spray nitrous not meth and beat him or go TVS

What speed did you start at?

Was just curious, I know the Golf R is pretty quick once you tune it, but still a heavy beast

It hammers hard out of the hole that's it's advantage. But falls off as you wind out.

He's gonna do a stage 3 over the winter. GTX2867R set up. They claim 452hp.

Didn't think those Golf Rs had pep to them after the initial launch out the hole. I'm sure the tune does wonders to them as well. I must say, I'm very impressed with their quality and fit and finish... especially the interior... nice cars.

What kind of numbers do the Rs put down stock and with APR stage 2? He must be 300whp+ but with a weight disadvantage to the balts.

Nice, clean run though.

Ya the fit and finish on the car is very nice. I'm not a big hatch fan but it's a really clean car. The motor set up is very similar to a TC. Direct injected 2.0 with a k04. Stock they make 256hp. Apr claims 372hp with their 93 octane set up. That stage kit includes a cold air intake and downpipe.

Should have been in 1st gear in the cobalt from a 30, that's why it fell off initially, too low in the powerband. Those VW's just aren't that quick on stock turbo no matter what you do. It's a shame, as they are nice cars and well put together, although they become a maintenance nightmare like every other VW with age.

FYI I believe that APR 372 claim is Crank HP not wheel.

From APR's Website
"APR’s Stage II ECU Upgrade offers increased performance when combined with APR’s Carbon Fiber Intake System and APR’s Cast Downpipe Exhaust System. Expect up to 280 horsepower and 321 ft-lbs of torque on 93 octane fuel"

Yeah those numbers they claim are calculated crank numbers, not wheel. If that car was 370whp it would have had an upgraded turbo and it would have taken off on you much harder.

Im just guessing. Somewhere in the 30mph range. The golf lagged too till it spooled so same factor on both ends. Really just the k04 tq grabbed him out of the gate and that was about it.

And yes that's crank hp ARP claims not whp.

I heard the revs too low, the speed was def below 40mph, and anything below that you should be in 1st, the gearing is too long for a decent start.

Oh I don't disagree with you there. I'm just saying they both kinda lagged off the start.

Golf R Vs Cobalt SS/SC

It was a roll race at 40 kph. Canada eh! dipped. As it was a roll race and not from a dig so launches were not a factor.

Golf R's can be a serious sleeper. Last dyno day on my friends local mustang D, this guy shows up in a 2013 I think, super clean 4 door manual trans, with an ultra quiet but custom exhaust and a APR badge.

Said it was a stage 3/4 something like that and had 485HP. EVERYONE claimed bullshit. ******* thing gets on a MUSTANG dyno (for the kids here that don't know, its reads on average for the cars ive seen 30-50 hp less than a dyno jet, ex. HPTuned and cobalts make like 260-290 whp and 315 ft lbs.), and puts down..

425 WHP!! so call it 450-460 on a Dyno jet, ultra quiet stock looking and the best part is all wheel drive! Was definitely the surprise of the day.

My main issue before was launching which caused crappy 60' times and led to lower traps there was also super high humidity that day which did not help traps either. This street race was a but better as it was lower humidity so the car felt better.
