I'll give you the fact that it's gonna pull a better 60 and 1/8th, but who cares? My car doesn't stare pulling til after the 1/8th.

Face it, STi's and Evos are autocross and rally cars, they arent made for 1/4 which is what most people buy F-Bodies for. I've had a couple friends with WRX's that try to run them in the quarter and both of them have had major tranny issues, as has another guy with an Evo. They are nice cars, and quick, but those 5k dumps on pavement are not what the cars were designed for. Basically, you're comparing a car that was built for speed in a straight line to a car that built for speed in the twisties.

As far as the SBC being a better bang for the buck than the LS1....you dont know much about the LS1 do you?

Go find a rolling chasis to put a smallblock in, then build the motor to get the appropriate power out of it and see how much you're at. You cant go out and buy a SBC for 500 bucks and think its gonna put down 400 hp.

I bought my car for 9500 dollars and with minimal mods I put down 353/362. Go see what it takes for you to get that kind of power out of a SBC. It's easy, but its not near as cheap as you want it to sound.
We are not talking about WRXs. STis' trannies are damn near bulletproof.

You can get an SBC for free and for 500 bucks get 400hp out of it. Do you know what nitrous is???

Ah but the center diff., if that's what you call it, is not.

EVO/STI were out in 2004. Just admit your comment was beyond rediculous and let this mini-argument end.

those are ultimate performers, they only can beat my Z28 in the twisties, i've rapped both of them drag racing, from dead stop from a roll dont matter, twisties is only thing they good at. those arent ultimate performers, if u want ultimate performer then give me a new Z06 which will put just about any exotic car to shame or a run for its money for less then 80K when the only exotics that can beat it are 250+k

I've raped LS1 f-bodies from a dig too and I never claimed the EVOs/STIs were "ultimate performers", but they are a lot better all around performers than ls1 f-bodies.

Actually the axles are usually the first to go and the rear differential is usually swapped before the center.

Unfortunately, I have a friend with an STI and he had his center diff. replaced, under warranty. Lucky for him. He did many 5000+ RPM drops at the track. +100 passes, before he started having problems.

What mods did he have? Yeah the center diffs do not like drag racing, especially if you hot lap them. I was talking more like when you start adding a lot more power to them, but got your point.

He's stock. He's on this forum but I won't mention his user name. I think it's a bad idea to talk about warranty work and the person who needs it over the net, especially since it was from abuse. The dealership doesn't need to know though. Call me paranoid.

Paranoid.

Anyways yeah, in stock trim the center diff is the weakest link.

Well I was just reading the front page, but thought I would put my experiences up when racing Z28's, SS's and Transams.

Early to mid 90's Z28's and Transams get eaten alive. I embarassed a Z28 to the point of laughing.

I raced a 2000ish Z28 and beat him by about a car and a half. I raced a 2000ish Firehawk and he whooped my ass down low even from a roll. we went from like a 40 and we both punched it at the same time, but he pulled first and took about 1.5 cars and then once he shifted we evened off and I started to pull back ever so slowly. by 120 I was able to pass him but just barely.

I raced a 2000ush red SS but I think it was modded. again from a roll he took a huge lead, but in his case we went up to about 90 and he kept that lead the whole time. I dont believe he pulled back me once we evened off, but I cant say for certain.

As far as from a Dig, IM sorry but its no contest, that same Firehawk raced me from a dig, and just went ghost! I mean holy crap. Never seen a car launch like that. So ah yea, no chance from a dig. Those stock mid 13 times from those cars are all launch IMO.

My answer to all of this is TORQUE

Yea, I think it is the equivelent of Chevy's SS

so

Transam = Z28

Firehawk = SS

Firehawk is not the SS equivalent, the ws6 is. Either way all f-body's that came with an LS1 all had similar power, just the 01 and 02 models have a slight boost due to the LS6 intake manifold that they came with stock. I believe they're all in the area of 350 crank hp stock. As far as the old SBC and the newer LS1 and LS2's there is no contest between them. The LSX motors are far superior. Yes you can make the a ton of power out of an old SBC and it will be cheaper to do than it is on an LSX motor but you will never have the same streetablity from the old motor that you would on an LSX motor at the same power level.

Holy smokes guys! hahaha

I just started this site and I feel like I am at home already...hahaha

Couple things ( I have owned 2 Z28's 96 and 98, a 2000 SS, a 97 Trans am)..

The LS1 is very easy to get HP on...BUT...the rear end is junk with a 7.5...you need a moser 12 bolt almost right away even for stock, not to mention once you start modding it. That is 2500 bucks installed. This is just some of the issues you have to deal with modding the Camaro's...I could go on forever. Are they easy horse...yes...but is it cheap considering what you have to beef up to hold it...not even close...I spent 5 thousand on just bolt on's for my SS...and thats just about installing everything myself. Are they awesome..yes...cheap to build? Anyone who has owned one will tell you...they are far from cheap to build.

As far as STI and camaro...a 98 or newer camaro is faster than an sti or evo...but the 97 or older LT1's need to be modded before they are as fast...in case you are wondering what mods...I had 3:73's, CAI, Full-exhaust, recalibrated PCM...with those mods I wiped my ass with a stock STI (yes I have the video I can easily share) and yes I know he was hammering on it ***** out because we stopped and talked for a while. (very cool guy)

So I am not trying to get involved in the aurgument...just offering my 2 cents.

he was telling us that he destroyed an sti modded. he didn't hide the fact that he had mods, he actually listed them. So let's not start another argument super.

Cool! I will share...if I can't post it here I will provide the link to streetfire.

The video is of my brother driving my Z28. It was a 96 Auto with 3:73's, CAI, PCM, FULL EXhaust (headers, no cat, and slp loudmouth)...now keep a couple things in mind when you watch the video..

1) we are behind the car at the stop light..so we can't get on the car until we get past the car on our left.

2)My stock 2000 SS would wipe it's butt with this modded 96. (we ran so many times I can't even count them all). So stock for stock it should prove that a 98 or newer LS1 is faster than an an STI...at least from a roll. (this is to the "so your saying your modded car beat a stock car?" comment...with my point being that from a roll a stock LS1 will hand an STI it's ass)

PS sorry for the crappy filming...I dropped my soda in my lap at the end of the race hahaha (I said it looks like we got a ourselves a race here because the guy asked us to let him in front of us so he "didn't lose his advantage of the launch"...again..the guy was really cool. I still talk to him form time to time )

coming from a guy who used to own a modified v6 and have destroyed them in the SS it was def. a V6. I've riden in many trans ams and formulas and am a major F-body fan, believe me you have nothing on one.

Here is the link super...enjoy and then insert your foot right above your bottom lip...

If you are ever up in green bay WI, I can not only introduce you to about 3 guys with STI's but I can have them race my SS for you...and then you can come back on the site and apologize for talking about cars you have never even been in, more or less know anything about over what you read in "STItunermag".

Here is the link:

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/6...6c0098fc81.htm

And if you would like me to send you the original video from my personal computer and email...I will do so.

PS. from a roll or not...STI is no match for an LS1 unless you are racing stoplight to stoplight.

So I invite everyone after watching the video to come back in a poke fun at Super

I will say again...I would blow the stink off this car, from a stop, from a roll, upside down you name it..in my LS1...so just think how bad that STI would have gotten his ass handed to him by an LS1 when it was handed to him this bad by a car that gets spanked by one.

You need to stop magazine racing and stop listening to your buddies in the STI's...telling stories about how they smoke LS1...when they are v-6's with SS badges slapped on by someone who knows about as much about then as yourself.

Why is from a roll pointless?? They don't have highways were you come from?

I think we have covered all angles in this arguement wouldn't you agree?

Newsflash, buttlick, I own an STi.

And everytime I go to the track not one single STOCK LS1 comes close to running my times. Sometimes there is exhaust, slp intaked LS1s that run slower and the street is never better.

For the Nth time, roll racing=rice. If you can't build a car that can hook, then you are in the wrong hobby.

and...... That video is LAME!!!!
