Paintballerr's s259et Cobalt back in action vs 489whp Evo (VID)

Yesterday Cody (Painballerr78) came down so we could get his car together for the first time in months. He had a reluctor spin on the intake cam and it threw everything off due to the crank and camshaft position sensors having no idea what was going on. ZZP sent him a new cam, so for testing purposes we tapped his reluctor back into place and tack welded it and it fired right up for the first time since before winter! Needless to say we were exstatic. We already had fresh oil in it, so we put new plugs in, gave her a bath, and ran the old fuel out and filled it with some fresh E85. In true ND crew style we were itching for some runs Had some lined up with this Evo, some 600 bikes, and a 526whp STi, but we were only able to run the Evo. Had the shifter linkage pop off going into 4th during the 40 roll, but got it fixed up and did a 60 on the way back. Here's the video

We also had a little fun on the way home in another friend's 6262 STi. I am driving the STi and dialing it in while he is gone this week. It made 504whp on a slightly conservative tune we had on it aftrer break-in, so probably around 515-520whp now on the same boost. I pulled the balt from 40-100 by a car or so, but shut it down since we had limited space. I'll make sure to film it next time and ride it out longer.

The one I am driving right now is an 07, with a stock 07 trans. Its a stock EJ257 open deck block, forged rods and pistons, stock heads and stock cams that are holding him back tremendously. Another friend has an 02 WRX with an 03 JDM STi trans swap (03-05 had shorter gears), closed deck EJ257, forged rods and 9:1 pistons, stock EJ205 heads with Kelford cams, pte5858 that I also tuned on E85 and on the same boost is it a decent amount quicker than the STi I'm driving. I have a bit of Subaru knowledge since I have a lot of friend with built ones and I have helped build most of them

Also, forgot to mention the balt has a ZZP 4.45 trans.

Guy is brave running a open desk on the Ej257 with that much power. Seems like the JDM STi trannys are much stronger.

I know :/ He usually runs it on 26 lbs, which is still just a hair below 500whp, but he is building a stroker for it, and that one will be closed deck. He wanted to have the car running for this year, so he did a quick build with a factory open deck block. I don't think the JDM trans is really any stronger too be honest. The one my friend has is the same gear ratios as the 04-05 trans too. The STi trans can hold up to 600+whp for quite some time as long as its driven right.

Interesting. I've just seen a few high power guys swap to the JDM trans. I've noticed with the EJ series you dont have any room for error in tuning or **** goes south real fast.

Yeah they have to be right on the nuts to be happy. My friend with the closed deck 257 had a stock motor (EJ205) with 150+k miles on it on an HTA68 8cm on E85 on 26 lbs making 380whp for 2 years, and ran 30 lbs ~400whp for about 3 months as well before we decided the motor won and didn't wanna give up and just pulled it out for the built one lol. We always kept the tune spot on though. Now its a whole new beast.

I want to run an HTA68 or Dom 2.0XT.

I have an EJ255 2014 WRX though.

The HTA68 8cm ported is a great turbo for the 2.0, but IMO a little small to be ideal for the 2.5. What fuel do you use and what are your goals? I've tuned a couple of DOM 1.5XTR's and a 2.5 (real low boost ) but everyone has different goals.

Right now its all stock minus a boost gauge.

Eventually I'd love to be in the 400 whp range.

I guess either will get you there on E85, the DOM will just do it on a little lower boost, and as you know on a Subaru lower boost is a good thing to keep those cylinders round!

Yeah that was why I wanted to go with the dom. I know its 500 whp capable but its easier on the motor to have it at lower boost.

Actually, didn't they stop making the 2.0 XT-R? I think I'd step up to the 3.0 XT-R. 55 lb/min IIRC where the 2.5 is around 49, and the HTA68 is 47/lb min. The 3.0 still spools really fast.
