Stock SS/TC vs. 350Z

Took the onramp to Beltline in Eugene OR and a White 350Z with a nasty sounding exhaust hauled up next to me. No cars out at 2am so he honked off at a 40 roll. Started in second and no lift shifted through 3rd, 4th, and into 5th. Kept ahead of him the entire time but he stayed at my bumper for most of it. Not half bad for a stock balt, I was happy Maybe the kid didn't know how to race or maybe his car was hurting. But I always thought the 350's were quicker.

Would you know if it it was like 07 n up 350z? Because I think those come with the HR engine(300 HP), and that should of kept up with you pretty much dead even. Good race though....

I truly don't know. It was heavily modded apperance wise. I would assume 06 since it was at my bumper. The 07's made 307hp stock. So unless he had an exhaust and wasn't tuned and was running poor then he should have held with me.

Well its 307 hp at the flywheel but to the wheels it should be about 260 hp. Your car I think weights a bit less than his and if you we're no lift shifting..... it sounds about right the race should of been pretty even. Also I heard that those 350z come pretty max out straigh from from manufacturer unless you throw a turbo or sc on it. So that exhaust was just to scare you off.

It did feel good lol. There's just that feeling when you've beat something that you know is a decent car. I can beat on Hondas all day but there's no satisfaction lol.

They aren't that fast, especially for the price tag.

I paid less for my HR 350Z than I did my Cobalt SS... and it is faster stock than my SS/SC was modded.

From a dig they should be quick.

Beat up on a guy from a 30ish pull. He was trying to show off to his gf.

Did take one from a dig on the street once. Should of never happened.

@ozzy.... You must of got a hell of a deal on that 350z, because a brand new 07 Z would of had a price of 29k for a base model which I don't know if that one would come with the hr motor. Where the 07 ss/sc brand new would of cost 22k. And even now if you would to buy a 07 ss you would be looking at spending 7k compare to a 07 350z with hr motor you're looking at spending 14k. So with the difference from 7k to 14k of the car prices you can easly tvs the ss and throw some powell suspension parts and have a faster and great handling car. But each to there own, I think both cars a great.

I did get mine for a hell of a deal. I wasn't really big on silver but when I seen the price I couldn't pass it up.

I've had no desire to do anything to it. If I do it'll more than likely be a set of 4.08 gears and a 100 shot. $1500 worth of mods and it would slap a TVS Cobalt around. My mod money goes into my 300ZX

From a roll, the balts power to weight kicks in. From a dig, your looking at .5 sec difference between you and an HR going to the HR in the 1/4. There good for low 13's with a decent driver, if you look at Ozzy's sig.

IMHO a blower swap on an LSJ isn't worth it, way better gains with a decent turbo setup for a little more dough. There was a 3.7 stang vs a TVS swap LSJ vid I viewed awhile back and it was pretty even with the stang ahead a bit at the end. Tuning, Driver, etc contribute towards this outcome, how much I don't know. I was expecting some stang rape when I first watched it. A 3.7 with 3.73s, tune and intake are good for mid to low 13's with a good driver.

Now with a S252 setup for example there would have been 0 chance for the stang unless the Balt just gave it to him. It sounds like a fair comparison let me know if I'm way off

Have run my Z against many a Cobalt, and it usually will beat an LSJ unless it's a roll and he has some solid work done, if I'm on motor. From a low speed or dig I probably will not lose on the street regardless of mods.

LNF, I have a little nitrous that solves that problem. Have pulled on bolted LNFs many times. But it's not a real match-up, the Z is so much nicer to drive than a Cobalt will ever be. I'm setting my Cobalt up to be a street racer because the Z is just not good in that arena.

Z does sound better than almost any other car out there, the exhaust I have on my car gets compliments all the time. I'd post vids but people here don't care.

You said you roll out on the LSJ and LNF but it's not a good "street racer". My definition of a "street racer" is you race on the street.... Did you mean a hwy killer or roll monster? Your post sounds a bit arrogant too, fyi...

I do agree the Z is a better complete package (interior, etc) vs the cobalt. Quit being a puss and post the vids...who cares!

I'm saying, my Z is quick enough to run with most Cobalts on the street but it's still not as fast as my old LSJ was way back in '08. Different car bought with a different purpose in mind though. If i'm trying to beat up on Cobalts on the street I'll build another Cobalt to race, it's more impressive anyway. Hopefully by the end of the year I have my '07 LSJ up and around to mess with. People assume the Z is quick, when it's actually not. People never assume a Cobalt is fast, so when you beat them with one it's far more interesting.

Good idea of how it sounds at WOT. It's a Tanabe Hyper Medallion system, old exhaust. It is now called thier medallion G or something to that effect but I bought it used back in '09 anyway. Car also has test pipes, so it's a lot quieter with the stock cats in there but they get toasted with the nitrous use. Always get compliments on the sound of the car, it's very exotic sounding without any nasty buzz or rasp, like the stock tone but amplified.

Some inside/outside runs

In car runs (camera car)

Don't spray in 1st gear on the street due to traction issues, so the evo which was brake boosting at 20mph gets a nasty jump against me on motor. He's since done cams and some other work but we haven't re-run. It's all in fun, I don't care if I lose or have to catch up. I just go out there to exercise the car a little bit, that's why a lot of my runs are on motor.

The z may be more of a better fanboi driver car, but the cobalt regularly destroys them on the track. mod for mod a z has no potential, stock for stock the z is a higher priced car, so it should have better interior etc.
