Stumbled across a G8 GT that wanted a piece
Ok, let me first say that i know people will call bullshit cause of my mods and people will say street racing is stupid, well, it wasn't street racing it was more of a comparison of acceleration at the time.
I started off the day testing out my new xd-16 wideband setup checking my WOT AFR and checking knock as well since i've seen a tiny bit lately. I was doing a 2nd- part of 4th pull to check and see if everything was running ok, til i saw someone enticed by the ruckus (my car is loud as hell). On a paralleling highway i saw a Black car start to pace and once the highways connected he pulled up behind me and proceeded to follow. I was running a usual testing route which usually has minimal traffic and at first i though this was some wierd GTO car or a G6, little did i know it was a new G8 GT. So coming around an offramp i decided to romp on it a little too soon and started to slide so i let off causing lift and causing my rear to slide a little (idiotic i know) but i've learned to control the car pretty well so i kept on the gas and kept her straight and we proceeded at a lesser rate to a straight away. Finally when i found an opening i dropped into third and he split off to the side and i gunned it, throughout third gear i could see him in my rearviews and he didn't seem to drop back much neither did he seem to gain at all. Then not paying attention to the revs i bounce at the end of 3rd and proceeded into fourth also not seeing much of any catching up out of the G8 GT. During 4th i let of for a sec cause i didn't know if he was going or not and during the pause i see him flying up so i gun it again and we stay paced pretty close and then i believe thats where he let off cause he started to drop back pretty quick. During the whole race i was wondering what that sweet ass looking car was so finally when i let off i just let 4th take me back to a moderate speed and watched him pass by as i saw the letters G8 on the right and GT on the left of the beautiful back end. Looking up a G8 GT's horsepower i saw an astounding 360hp and thought that my car did pretty freaking good considering. But then again it was more of a test, i knew he wanted to see what i could do but he still could have been playing around as well, even though i wasn't full out the whole time myself. I thought i'd share this just because i thought it was one of the most amazing things finding an amazing car on the road where someone actually wanted to show off a little. I know if i were to race from a dig i'd get smoked cause of his RWD, anyways though, lovely car, so much hotter than the GTO. |

I want to see them running at a few more tracks before I pass judgment. I just find it odd that a car with 40-50 less horsepower and about 200 more pounds than the GTO would run just as fast as one, and it's a 6spd auto to boot.
In the hands of equally inexperienced or unskilled drivers, A4 GTO's will post better times than M6 ones. Also of note is that an M6 GTO (mine at least), requires a shift to 4th right before the trap. Stock LS2 GTO's have been driven to 12.9 (I have heard of 12.8) and trap anywhere from 106 - 109. There is more in the car, but the tires are a hindrance. I have not looked into it at all, so I do not know what gearing they are mating to the A6 in the G8 GT. |
Matt from TTP has a new G8 GT and just took it to the track not too long ago...
13.4 stock 13.1 tuned 12.5 100 shot http://youtube.com/watch?v=y2WwNd-7Ko8 |
i guess we will find out how the 6.0 L76 engine is
cant wait to see the g8 gxp LS3 |
I believe it the thing weighs 4144 pounds it only traps 104 stock you could handle yourself. Im waiting to pick on one myself

Probably wasn't even broken-in yet...

i read that they run 13.8 stock, but nobody ever gets it perfect. And i don't deny that he may have been f***ing with me or may not have been in sport mode, and my mods may not be extensive, so take it or leave it.
Even at that, i am pretty confident my car could run about a 13.5 and i'm going to test that theory this summer, i have held up pretty good (didn't beat) against a 310whp srt-4 that does a 12.9 and a T/A WS6 w/ headers intake and a superchips tune and i have for sure beaten a new srt-4 caliber by a good amount. I did have a huge exhaust leak running with the G8 though, i realized afterwards that i totally blew out one of my gaskets and i think the bolts may have been coming loose for weeks cause one was missing and the other 2 were severely loose. It was like a poor mans cutout right off the back of the header but it probably hurt me more than it helped. BTW, i think the scoops are great on that car, it makes the front end look a lot better, i think the overall appeal is much better than the G6 GT's or even GXP's. |

definiately...the g6 gxp was totally half-baked in typical old gm style the g8 is spot on though...if anything i wish there was more differentiation between the 3 diff models V6, GT and GXP...they all look too similar for my taste

very true, and the wide table top wing on the GXP kinda makes me queezy. GT's actually have a sport package which makes them look almost exactly like the GXP besides that poopy wing (i hate to bring it up around my friend with the new 4 door GXP he got).
