245/40/18 Fit

MSR 045
18x8
+35

Would a 245/40 Nitto fit and be fine?

Car is dropped on SSC's.

You should run a wider wheel. They will need to be rolled but not pulled

I should just buy a roller lol.

Thank you. I may just stick to my 235's then.

Just put these on this morning on 18x8 enkei EKM3, upsized from 235/40/18 falken 912's which i had just put on a few months ago, they got damaged over the winter, sidwall split, two nails. Fit perfectly, no rubbing, actually still a little bit small still to be honest. Im on CM springs as well.

I'd recommend 245/35/18 since it's closer to the same diameter as stock.

I'd never run a 35 sidewall, your just asking for problems riding on rubberbands. 40 is about as low as I will ever go. I pulled the revs per mile and tire height from the manufacturer and did the math and recalculating the tire size in HPT so that the speedo was perfectly accurate.

I have the 235 falken 912's in the back still, and they touched the inner fender when completely bottomed out on the cut bump stops, but I have since fixed that by installing the ion bump stops from moog. The 245's in the front just barely touch the inner fender liner on full lock, not even enough for me to notice.

You realize the 40 is in proportion to the width so a 225/40/18 is the same sidewall as a 245/35/18

Proportionally smaller by about 5mm, where as the 235/40 is proportionally larger by about 8mm, ill take the proportionally larger sidewall over the smaller one. Proportional, proportional, proportional.

The second number is the percentage of sidewall compared to the width of the tire. Do the math. 245/35/18. 245=9.65" so 9.65x.35=3.37" of side wall compared to a 225/40/18 225=8.86" so 8.86x.40=3.54" of sidewall. So you're gonna tell me dropping down a quarter of an inch in overall height which is an eighth of the top and eighth of the bottom is considered rubber bands? You're nuts.

what are you doing with the car ?? why are you looking for a wider tire ?

i run 225/40 18 on a 18x8 with NT05's .... less roll over when cornering FTW !

I run 245's on 8" wide rims no problem - can't go any bigger because IRL's have less wheel clearance than Balt's do.
You bastards.

You can put whatever you want on your car, but there is a noticeable difference in ride quality between a 35 and a 40 sidewall.

Are you comparing the same model tire and speed rating in your experience?
If the 35 series tire had a high speed rating or just happened to have a stiffer sidewall, the ride quality could be a lot worse even though it's only 1/4" diameter shorter than a 40 series tire.

Not the same model tire, but similar speed ratings. On the balt the difference between 235/40 and 245/40 was noticeable as well. Could be because the Ziex 329 has a slightly softer compound (both W rated) compared to the 912 IMO but the sidewall height was a bit larger. 24.96 vs 24.72. However on all the tires I have used throughout the years, there is a noticeable difference in ride quality for every step smaller you go on the sidewall, anything Ive ever driven on under a 40 sidewall was horrifically harsh on bumpy roads. But I realize that some of you are privileged with much better road conditions compared to what im used to in the north east, there was an unspeakable level of bent rims and blown out low profile tires last winter. lol

yeh im on CM springs and honestly considering getting the taller powell yyz's for a better ride height. The constant battering from potholes is shaking my interior apart too. lol

I've ran 255/35/18 on 18x8 +35 wheels just fine, and 245/40/18. I'm on pedders though so I have a bit more clearance. They will rub in the rear if ypu bottom out.

My question is, what kind of knock off tires are those in the pic?

Rather than go wider, use a better tire.

I have RE-11A's on my turbo tercel in a 195/50/15, they hook way better than a wider tire that just isn't as sticky.
