Autocross slicks- Ventus Z214, Proxes RR, or G-force R1
I'm looking to get a set of slicks for autocross because I run in SMF and my Michelin PSS are pretty much shot. These tires will be used for autocross only. Assuming slicks offer a significant advantage over good autocross tires like Potenza RE-71R (do they?) I decided if I am going to have dedicated tires they may as well be slicks since they are legal in my class. The Hoosiers are just way too pricey for me to justify. That narrows it down to the $200 range tires.
Right now on tire rack I am finding Hankook Ventus Z214 tires and Toyo Proxes RR slicks for about the same price with the BFGoodrich G-force R1 tires being about halfway between these and the Hoosiers. These are not the only tires I would consider, just the only tires I found in either 235/40R17 or 245/40R17 on tirerack that I found. I would be open to other suggestions.
I just really want to do my research and make the right decision the first time so I don't end up with less than ideal tires like I did for this season. If anyone has any experience with the tires, preferably autocross, I would appreciate your feedback.
Or do you think it isn't worth it and I should just go with something like the Potezna RE-71R? Do companies typically come out with new tires before the start of the season? Should I just wait until next season to get a fresh set of tires? I have a nice size chunk cut into my PSS and I am not sure I would pass tech so even though there are only a couple more events left this year for me to go to I may have to cut the season short if I don't get new tires.

The RE 71R would give you more dry grip than the SuperSports, but not as much as a full on slick tire. I'd put the say the BFG gets the closest to Hoosier level grip, but the Hankooks are about the best bang for the buck.
