Best tire to replace my Nitto Neogens on my 2008 SS/TC
I'm looking to replace my ageing Nitto Neogens on my 2008 SS/TC. I recently got it tuned and I have found that my old Neogens definitely do not have the traction I need anymore. I'm looking for something relatively cheap, but with decent tread life so I don't have to keep buying sets of tires every year. I also drive in the rain on occasion, and it snows here about three times a year. I'm not too worried about the snow, though, because I can drive my girlfriend's car. I really like the Nitto NT05's, but I'm concerned about the tread life. Any suggestions?

If you want traction you'll have a lower tread wear that the tire doesn't last as long. NT05's are great but you'll only get about a year out of them. You have a torquy FWD car, you're going to go through tires that's just the nature of the game so you can either go through them will less traction and have them last slightly longer or have some more traction and they will won't last too long. Look at Continental DW tires.

Ever drove them in the rain? How do they feel when the road is wet? Can you drive on them with confidence that the car will go where you want it to go or is it dicey? I'm thinking about replacing my Dunlop star specs with them for better dry traction but I don't want to risk it if they can't handle in the rain like the star specs.

I wanted a tire with decent stickiness and good tread life. I ended up with the Potenza RE760 Sports. They are a great tire in rain and sun but only for summer. They will spin if you just nail the power in lower gears. Not great for launches but great so far for high speed cornering and maneuvering. Only complaint is they break free from wheel spin really easy in the wet, but they do not lose grip in normal wet driving.

Well, I ended up getting the NT05's anyway lol. They just came today. I'm pretty excited to put them on! If they only last a year, it won't be a huge deal I suppose. I don't do a ton of crazy driving, I just want to not have massive wheel spin every time I get into it in 1st, 2nd, or sometimes 3rd haha. I'm sure they'll probably last long enough. The price was good too!

Yup, that's where I bought them. We had our annual cruise night here in Lincoln, which means people like to race from red lights a lot. Holy **** you could tell a difference. They just stick so much better. I practically couldn't get a bad launch if I tried. I ended up pissing a lot of people off and getting called a "Cavalier" "Neon" and "Slowbalt," right before I beat them. You know...the usual.

I'm a little late to the party, but I have my 3rd set of NT05's and they are a great street tire, but a word of caution that in heavy rain they lose contact pretty easily. On roads that are just wet, traction is amazing, both accelerating/decelerating as well as lateral grip. I've never had a set last longer than 9K miles but that's just me.
