Can 225/50R17 Fit on FE5 Sedan? Better ride than 205/50?
Hi folks.
Been a while.
I ran over a pothole. It killed my LH Rear Continental ExtremeContact DWS XL 205/50R17 I have wrapped around Monte Titano MT1 PIANA wheels. Hole in the sidewall. Great. New replacement after 2 years and 45,000 miles.
Since the fronts are down to 5/32s, I'm strongly considering just getting all new tires. Especially since moving to the Detroit area and putting the FE5-YYZ struts/springs/end-links on my 2LT over a year ago, I've felt the ride over these terrible roads now has gotten worse within the last 3 months (maybe as things cooled down). These roads are seriously wearing on my car, I can feel it and hear it. Especially on Schoenherr between 17 mile and 12 mile. Just terrible.
I am thinking I should step up the sidewall height and leave the Ultra High Performance category and look at a Touring tire. Trade in some steering crispness for more comfort. Today I'll take it.
But can I fit a 225/50 R17 without rubbing? That's the question.
If I can't then I'm forced to 225/45. My current tire size (205/50) is same as the OEM Sport 17" but also sort of a less common size, apparently -- No locals carried anything in that size in the store. Crazy.
My wheels have a 40mm offset.
Let me know your thoughts.

My wheels are 17x7.5.
The tire rack "recommended" tire size for them are 225/45-17.
Wheels: Monte TITANO MT1 Piana Matte Titanium
