Frustrated over 235 fitment issue
So I need to order tires. Im debating over 225s or 235s. Id rather have wider tires for take off. I searched threads going back for months. Some people are saying they have fitment issues with the 235/40 on stock rim with no lowering kit and some say the dont. I dont want to be the one that has issues but on the other hand I dont want to be the one with smaller tires then Denny, cmon, the guy has the same car as me and hes lowered!! lol

make a note of the specific tires mentioned in past posts, while theyre all a 235 tire not all are made the same way. some are rounded shoulder and some are squared shoulder, there can be as much as 1/2 inch difference in tire section width as well.

I'm stuck trying to decide this as well. I'd hate to order some 235/40s and have them not fit properly, the shop would probably make me keep them. 225/40s seem like they'd be too short.

Aftermarket wheels can change everything as far as fitment goes, I'm experiencing that the hard way on my Contour right now .
When tires are sized they should say somewhere what size wheel they were measured on, IE a 225 measured on a 7 inch wide wheel is going to be a wider actual tire then a 225 measured on a 7.5 inch wheel. The 7 inch wheel is going to scrunch the sidewalls together more then the 7.5 inch.. The size change won't be much, but it might be just enough.

I could probably go even wider with a little bit of work and with aftermarket wheels, but I really like the stockers and don't want to shell out that kind of money right now.

If you could get a pic of how much they bulge off of the rim, that would be great. How many miles do you have on the tires, are they wearing evenly?

Reason I'm asking is I'd like to get the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. They don't come in a 225/45/18 and I don't really want 225/40/18 (I think they're too short, my speedo reads too fast already). So 235/40 seems to be my only option if I'm getting the F1s

I am on my second set of KDWs, I got 17,000 on the 225s, now I have about 6000 on the 235s and they are wearing good, except for the fact that I have a broken CAB that is wearing the fronts out a little faster than normal. For reference, I only got 11,500 on the stock pirellis, all the way around. I just drive VERY hard all the time.
