Frustrated over 235 fitment issue

So I need to order tires. Im debating over 225s or 235s. Id rather have wider tires for take off. I searched threads going back for months. Some people are saying they have fitment issues with the 235/40 on stock rim with no lowering kit and some say the dont. I dont want to be the one that has issues but on the other hand I dont want to be the one with smaller tires then Denny, cmon, the guy has the same car as me and hes lowered!! lol

make a note of the specific tires mentioned in past posts, while theyre all a 235 tire not all are made the same way. some are rounded shoulder and some are squared shoulder, there can be as much as 1/2 inch difference in tire section width as well.

You happen to get yours yet?

I'm stuck trying to decide this as well. I'd hate to order some 235/40s and have them not fit properly, the shop would probably make me keep them. 225/40s seem like they'd be too short.

I have KDW 235-40-18 on my car, with sportlines, and they don't rub. Fit perfect, look badass, and unbelivable traction. KDW's FTW!!

Aftermarket wheels can change everything as far as fitment goes, I'm experiencing that the hard way on my Contour right now .

When tires are sized they should say somewhere what size wheel they were measured on, IE a 225 measured on a 7 inch wide wheel is going to be a wider actual tire then a 225 measured on a 7.5 inch wheel. The 7 inch wheel is going to scrunch the sidewalls together more then the 7.5 inch.. The size change won't be much, but it might be just enough.

They usually do if you check a manufacturer list. It will have a rim size range and a measuring rim size, meaning that the tire is a 235-40 on a 18x8 or whatever they used. Actual size may vary if you have a different width rim.

Are you running stock wheels? That's the part I'm most interested in...

I could probably go even wider with a little bit of work and with aftermarket wheels, but I really like the stockers and don't want to shell out that kind of money right now.

Yeah, stock wheels. I don't have a pic right now of it, but I can take one today at lunch if you want. Looks really good on the car.

I have 225's and no issues at all. The difference between 225 and 235 isn't that big so you should just grab 225's. They work well.

Reason I'm asking is I'd like to get the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. They don't come in a 225/45/18 and I don't really want 225/40/18 (I think they're too short, my speedo reads too fast already). So 235/40 seems to be my only option if I'm getting the F1s

If you could get a pic of how much they bulge off of the rim, that would be great. How many miles do you have on the tires, are they wearing evenly?

I had the 225 and 235 KDW, there is a big difference between the two as far as traction is concerned, more than I expected. The 235 and 225 look almost identical though. Don't use the looks of the KDW as a guide too much, I have seen a big difference between manufacturers in design and sizing, due to differences in measuring rim width. BFGs usually look pretty meaty.
I am on my second set of KDWs, I got 17,000 on the 225s, now I have about 6000 on the 235s and they are wearing good, except for the fact that I have a broken CAB that is wearing the fronts out a little faster than normal. For reference, I only got 11,500 on the stock pirellis, all the way around. I just drive VERY hard all the time.

Hmm... doesn't look too bad. I just hope the Eagle F1s are a real similar width. Might order them in a few days assuming the shop up here isn't ridiculously expensive.

Thanks.

Do you have 245's on your stock wheels or the ICWs you have for sale?? if you have them on the stock ones, what size is it and how hard was the fitment and what about rubbing issues??

235/40/18, I don't remember seeing them in a 235/45, and I wouldn't want them any taller anyway.
