Michelin PS4S

Going to be replacing my Nitto NT555 G2's with some Michelin PS4S's and wanted to see if anyone had any experience with the PS4's or Pilot Super Sports on their Cobalt?

FWIW, I really enjoyed my G2's for the first 25K miles. I've got almost 30K on them now and while they still have a decent amount of tread left, they've only lasted 2 AZ heat cycles.... ZERO traction 1st through 3rd and cornering is drastically reduced.

In for info as I will probably be getting new tires this year

You can never go wrong with Pilot Super Sports. I have ran them on multiple cars.

Go on tire rack, they usually have some really good road test/comparisons of tires.

T-Man 07-09-2018 01:31 AM

Pulled the trigger on some 235's. Will keep everyone posted once I get them installed.

T-Man 07-14-2018 12:05 PM

Didn't want to wait weeks for the 235 so went with factory 225 .

So far, it's an amazing tire but it's still fresh. Makes it hard to say good or bad but, it dead hooks 1-3 :)

Snail_SS 07-14-2018 12:52 PM

Are the 235 on backorder?

Don't you have a bigger turbo and it still dead hooks? That's outstanding.

Wytchdctr 07-14-2018 05:23 PM

I just threw them on mine. Awesome - both in when dry and in the rain. Gotta do something pretty dumb to get them loose (so far).

63 Nova SS 07-14-2018 07:26 PM

So far I've never had tires that would hook in 1st. Drag radials would in 2nd if they were hot but not if cold. I have even spun slicks off the line but not in 2nd. Can't believe you can hook 1st gear with those tires.

Didn't ask to be honest.

Yep, BW based WR-3. It truly is quite awesome to have this kind of traction again without a full on DR or RR tire

A lot of it has to do with the way things are setup in the tune but yeah, these tires are great.

Snail_SS 07-14-2018 08:07 PM

Seems like you sold me on them, keep us posted as you keep driving on them

Flarfignewton 08-03-2018 01:10 PM

I've had Pilot Super Sports in 245/40R18 on for about 3 summers now. With around 15k on them with mainly normal driving and a few launches here and there plus some spirited back road driving, I'm still at 5/32 tread on all 4. Just make sure to store them indoors during the winter if it gets below freezing as I haven't and there's a small amount of cracking happening.

as everyone else already stated, that's awesome that you can hook that well with a 300tw class tire. How aggressive is your boost ramp?

Pretty aggressive 2-4 but 1st is neutered pretty good. I have a spare transmission sitting in the garage, so I'm not too overly concerned

Honestly though, straight line traction aside, these are the nicest tires I've ever driven on. They've completely transformed the car, in a very positive manner. Highly recommend these to anyone and everyone.

07blackg5 08-03-2018 01:59 PM

I had 245/40/17s on 17x9 et40 wheels and they cleared, but were close. I'm just on coilovers, so they have a bit more clearance between the wheel/tire and the spring perch vs the stock struts. That being said, I know quite a few people that run 245's and are okay.

Currently on 245/45/16 on an et38 wheel

07blackg5 08-03-2018 02:21 PM

that's a full inch bigger diameter than my 24.7", so you might rub fender liner a bit with the extra .5", depending on how low you are.

07blackg5 08-03-2018 02:24 PM

you shouldn't hit anything structural, just fender liners.

I rub my fender liner on the driver's side because of my intake but if you don't have that issue and aren't super low, 245s are fine. I'm on 18x9s +40 with a 5mm spacer in the front to clear the Brembos so that may also have something to do with it.

63 Nova SS 08-08-2018 02:20 PM

Wish I felt good about 245's on a 8"rim but I'm afraid I would give up handling due to the tread width being so much wider than the rim. On a 9" that would be a different story.

63 Nova SS 08-08-2018 02:23 PM

And I'm still puzzled at dead hooking. I couldn't even do that on drag radials 1st gear limited to 10-15psi, on basically a factory turbo.

Not the best angle, and since it's totaled can't get another shot. But here is a 245/40R18 on the 1st gen SS wheel.

63 Nova SS 08-08-2018 06:34 PM

I had 245 drag radials mounted on 7.5 wheels and you could tell a little difference. Don't think my 8" wide M52's are going to make much of a difference there. I would probably order 235's for my setup.
