New tire recommendation

Hey guys, I'm looking to get new tires for my 2009 cobalt ss. Just wondering what is the general consensus on what is the best for the price. I currently have Michelin Pilot sports on but I can spin @ 4k in 2nd and hate it. What is the widest tire I can go with? 265? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I guess first thing first. What mods hoe much power are you making?

Stock rim the widest you can go without reducing your contact patch due to puckering is 235
245 is as wide as you can go without rubbing issues some people still have issues.
If you want to properly run 245 or wider you need at least an 8" wide rim, stock ss tc rim is 7.5" wide.

Of course the wider you go the more likely hood of rubbing issues and such you would probably want to drop to a 35 sidewall to assist a bit and keep your speedo more accurate. In sure there is a perfect combination of rim and tire that is proven.
It needs to clear the brembos and have minimal offset so it doesn't hit your struts with a wide tire but not so little offset the it hits your fender well.

225 width would be fine for your power level as long as you get a decent set of sticky tires.

I had nitto nt 555 for 4 years and they were good. Just not for snow but I still got around. Now I picked up continental extreme contact dws 06 which are more suited for crap weather. Those would be two good choices imo

I'm running nitto555's right now and my 2nd gear shreds through them... It's also full 24psi in second, lol. Full boltons hptuned

They hold similarity to my buddies comp2sports on pretty much the same car, mine might grip a little bit better.

He lives in cali so i dont think hes worried about snow
Check out the dunlop direzza z2s. Very sticky tire. Im fully bolted on a 93 tune. Every gear is solid except for 2nd. It gets a little chirpy at WOT

that's what I wanted to get originally but my shop couldn't order them in. I was assured the 555's would perform the same. I don't think that's the case though.

I got mine through tire rack. You have about 20 more tq than I do but you should still hook hard. My traction issues are minimal

The nittos are all you need perhaps some traction mods are in order. Also a bit of boost ramping in second to give the tires a fighting chance.

Even just gms1 and I can blow the tires off rolling onto the power.
Little turbo hard power hit lost traction.

Suspension wise I have ksport springs with a ttr rear sway bar. Car is really solid and right through the corners but it's not helping on the straights

Nitto tires are a good choice when it comes to traction, low road noise and handling, though tread life is not the best.
