Oh great another tire size thread

Looking to get new tires for the daily LNF sedan. Looking for some advice mainly about tire size for ride comfort and traction. I daily my sedan so looking for a little more comfort over the stock 225/40 size. Would really like a beefy setup but don't wanna go to wide for the stock wheels. Would also like a little more side wall for comfort. Recently I threw on my G5 GT winter wheels with 215/45 winter tires. The 45 side wall made the ride much more comfortable.

Now keep in mind I am not to savy with tire specs . So im interested in what ppl run. I am on stock shocks/struts with SSC lowering springs.

Maybe some along these lines:

235/40/18 (this would be a suitable for stock wheels)

235/45/18 (is the 45 too much side wall for clearance?)

245/40/18 (a little too wide for stock wheels)

I just put 45 side wall tires on my car to help absorb road bumps/potholes. stock width. the ride is smoother and I can now easily tell when my 2 leaky rims need some air. i got these off of tire rack. 225/45R-18 Sumitomo HTR A/S P02. so far i like them. they got good reviews and didn't break the bank.

i did notice the tire comes pretty close to the plastic wheel well guards when fully turned so i wouldn't go any bigger than 45.

If you can find a 225/45/18 you'll get almost 1/2" additional sidewall without the extra width. I ran 235/40/18 for my summer setup and they aren't noticably different ride (granted they're Nitto 555s so riding soft isn't why I bought them)

Check out discount tire's calculator for comparison.

I run 245/45-17 drag radials on 1 set of wheels and they aren't as hard over bumps. I do notice a give up in cornering over my other wheels but they are also mounted on 7.5 rims.

Im just trying to get a idea for the look of the 45 sidewall. I would really like to see if anyone runs the 235/45/18 on the stock TC wheels,

its the silver peeling off the rims. you can see it bubbling on the spokes too. I should have gotten the rim replacement package when I got the car for 70 something dollars. but, I turned it down thinking I have had cars that are 10 years old and the rims are fine... now theyre all pitted, peeled, 2 leak. GM quality.

Must be those Wisconsin winters. Mine are still pristine after 6 years. Of course it was always garaged. Come to think of it, for the last 3 years it's been garaged practically permanently

yeah, mine is not garaged unless im fixing it and it's cold outside as seen in my recent thread. the winters im sure accelerate it but I think it has to do with how they painted the rims. theyre all stained from brake dust too. oh well, its my dd. maybe ill sand them all down this summer and paint them. I will say them leaking is aggravating though. but I plan to keep up on maintenance and drive it 'til the wheels fall off and move on.

You guys know the height of the sidewall is dependant on the width of the tire right?

Op you claim you went from a 225/40 to a 215/45, thats only .3" more sidewall if the wheel diameter stayed the same.

Websites like this are really helpful when trying to find different size tires with similar widths or heights.

You may find that the brand or performance category matters more than sidewall height.

My winter tires are on g5 gt wheels they are 17x7 with a 215/45 tire. The factory TC wheel setup is 18x7.5 with 225/40/18.

While I do understand and have used websites like that. A picture helps really put it into perspective. But that's why I made this thread to see what other sizes and tires people are running.

Came to post this.

First number is width in mm. Second is sidewall height. The number represents a percentage of width. 225/40/18 means that the sidewall height is 40% of 225.
