Wet Traction: 9

Would you Recommend: YES

Additional Comments/Review: i loved these tires (couldn't afford to get 2nd set). everything about them was wonderful. i didn't push them in the wet or cold but at below freezing and in the rain they were great. held a corner at 100+ with about 60% life left on them if that lets you know anything about dry traction.

Would you Recommend: Sure, for mediocre performance.

Additional Comments:
A better performing tire than average, but not at all for impressive performance. A lot of easy hydroplaning with these tires. Would recommend for someone looking for a bang for the buck tire but don't expect superior performance.
Not gonna put in *review format*..just respond to this one.
Falken Ziex ZE-512
I had these (NEW) on my SS/TC when I got it (used). I love em. 225/40/18.
Stick.. very quiet after 4K miles. Hardly any wear so far. They have been discontinued, but some on line retailers are still selling em....for $99ea! The replacement is the 912 and you can get those for just a tad more.

Here's a great link that shows pics of many tires mentioned in this thread:
If you click on the individual pics, you get a VERY HIGH resolution pic of the tire. Neat.

Tire Information
Vehicle: 2006 Cobalt SS/SC
Tire Brand/Type: Dunlop SP Sport Signature (all seasons)
Size: 225/40/18
Cost: 119 @ discount tire direct
Purchased from: Discount tire
Current Tire Millage: 1500km

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)
Dry Traction: 8
Wet Traction: 8
Snow Traction: 7 (snow doesn't seem to be a problem for these tires)
Cornering/Steering Response: 9
Ride Comfort: 5
Road Noise: 5
Wear Rating: Don't know yet, but rated 440 tread wear implies that the tires are quite hard and they should deliver decent milage

Would you Recommend: Depends on how important ride quality and comfort is for you.

Additional Comments/Review: Great all seasons tire for the price considering the level of wet and dry performance it delivers. However, they are very harsh on our car over bumps and they do create quite a bit of road noise on the highways.

Has anyone tried the Kumho Zetum Sports? They're the cheapest option at Discount Tire and the 3 reviews look ok.

New Cooper Tire comming out

Cooper Tires - News Releases

In particular these two...I'll be looking at the RS3-S:

Cooper will also unveil the Cooper Zeon RS3-A, which replaces the current Cooper Zeon Sport A/S. The RS3-A is the latest ultra-high performance all-season tire within the Cooper performance family. Combining large tread elements and asymmetric design, it provides all-season confidence in less-than-ideal weather conditions. The RS3-A's silica tread compound is designed for exceptional all season driving performance, while its advanced technology mold profile provides a square tread footprint, providing more tread-to-road contact. The RS3-A will be initially offered in 31 sizes and will launch April 2011. Additional sizes are scheduled for later in the year.

Also debuting in the Cooper booth is the Cooper Zeon RS3-S, replacing the current Cooper Zeon 2XS. The RS3-S is the latest ultra-high performance summer tire within the Cooper performance family. Building on the technology and performance of the Roush RS3 tire, the RS3-S offers a low-profile, high performance rating which combines world-class dry road traction, increased handling and exceptional cornering ability. Its silica tread compound is designed to provide superior wet driving performance, while the durable uniform tire construction delivers a crisp, tight steering response. The RS3-S will be available in 21 sizes and will launch April 2011

Same for me. I have the RE960's... all season and I'm debating a second set (because they've been excellent) or the DWS. I still haven't made up my mind.

Are you running the stock 225 size now or 235? I'm debating on that too. I'm running the 225 size and I'd love to try 235 but I don't want to give up handling because the tire is "pinched" in the wheel.

ok just saw that you are a tc so 7.5 inch wheel. they might not be as bad for you then.

on the ss/sc wheels? also are you lowered or anything? i put that size on my sc stock rims and i have ark coilovers lowered all the way down. they didnt rub or anything but the sidewall is VERY soft!! if you were drive and turning back and forth (think nascar here when they are about to go green how they go side to side) and then stopped turning the wheel the car would keep swaying. they were horrible for me. i had to send them back. i even tried pressure up to 42 psi and nothing helped.

Yeah I keep hearing that about the sidewall on the DWS. I think I'll do another set of RE960's. Better tires can be had for specialty use but the RE960's just did EVERYTHING so well I'll get another set. Now the question is the stock 225/40 or 235/40.... hmmm....

I've got an upgraded SS/TC(~355 whp) and recently got some Nitto NT05 235/40s, and I HIGHLY recommend these tires if your looking for a good performance tire. Got them on discounttiredirect.com for $147/tire. Granted, I still spin at the top of 2nd gear on occasion, but for the money, can't beat it IMO.

Continental Extreme Contact DWS Ultra Performance All Season

Tire Information
Vehicle: 2006 Cobalt SS Supercharged
Tire Brand/Type: Continental Extreme Contact DWS - Ultra Performance All Season
Size: 225/45/18
Cost: ~$150/tire
Purchased from: Discount Tire
Current Tire Millage: 6k

Ratings: scale of 1 to 10
(1 being very poor, 10 being very excellent)
Dry Traction: 10
Wet Traction: 10
Snow Traction: 8
Cornering/Steering Response: 10
Ride Comfort: 9, only because they are a harder compound (550 rating)
Road Noise: 10, I hear engine, never my tires?
Wear Rating: 10!!

Would you Recommend: After 6 miles, I can barely notice any tread gone. Most of those miles are through this past winter driving as well. By far the best wear of tire I've ever owned.

Additional Comments/Review: Its the top all season rated tire on tire rack, they're that way for a reason. This tire is miles ahead than the Pirelli sport all seasons that I used to run. The tread design is very unique and is an excellent tire in every category. The only problem i had in the snow was trying to stop quickly on ice, I could easily fly by 4x4 suvs and trucks during a snow storm with such confidence and control. Absolutely no slipping or loss of traction when changing lanes (driving across the snow that builds up between lanes).

-Thanks

Additional Comments/Review: I replaced my nitto nt555 with these tires. They are wearing a lot better than the nt555s did. When it's warm out these tires love to grip and there is hardly any road noise. I'm still debating on if I should get these again or try the NT05.

Wet Traction: 6
Snow Traction: 2
Cornering/Steering Response: 7
Ride Comfort: 8
Road Noise: 6
Wear Rating: 5

Would you Recommend: For the price, yes very much.

Additional Comments/Review:
The tires are much better than the stock conti's that came on the car. And I dare say it would do as good as tires twice the price. I've done three autocrosses (between 6 and 9 runs from each) and a track day and 5000 miles of mostly highway driving (and some spirited driving) and still have about 30-40% tread left. Not great, but with a treadwear of 240 it's to be expected. Also a great thing is that the tire gives you the same dry traction from the day you put them on until the day you take them off.

Would you Recommend: YES, just bought my second set!
I just took this set off of my car, and replaced them with 245/40/18.
I had about 20 autocross events on them.
One track day ( 4 twenty minute sessions) at Mid Ohio.
About 60 passes at the drag strip on top of daily spirited driving!
These tires were awesome, they wore well, and are a great autocross tire.
I would highly recommend them to anyone!

Additional Comments/Review: Ran after the stockers wore out from about 35,000 to 75,000. They were wore completely out when I changed them. Best in the rain of all the tires I have ran on the car did not hydroplane even toward the end of the tread life very much at all. Probably more impressive in the rain than in the dry to be honest. They never quite felt right though because the 235s are really too wide for the stock wheels. That's my fault though not the tire.

Additional Comments/Review: Put these on after the General's wore out. Got them pretty cheap I felt at the time. Gripped really well in the dry though I never went to the track with these on the car so I can only give seat of the pants feel that they gripped better than the General's. They do not do that well in the rain though and once they wore out they had almost no traction in the rain. To my surprise they seemed to last forever. Most of the miles I put on the car are highway miles to work and back but I never dreamed I would get somewhere around 70,000 miles on a performance tire. May have just been a fluke but I have replaced them with the same tire hoping for a repeat in wear and performance.

Would you Recommend: Only to lower power cars/ no one wanting to drag race

Additional Comments/Review: I've had these tires on for about a year and a half left. They aren't wearing gracefully, though some of that may be me needing an alignment and rotating tires more. They're noisy, though not terrible. They ride pretty nicely, at about 34psi. They grip very nicely in the rain, however, straight line traction in the dry is fairly poor, I have no problem spinning these, even on only GMS1. They corner fairly well, though I would not want to take them to the track, I feel they will fail at the limit. at about 13,000 miles, they still have about half their tread left after lots of abuse. Overall these would be a good DD summer tire for those not making a lot of power, anyone under 225 whp would probably be fine with these. A good competitor for something like the Kuhmo Ecsta SPTs. I'm kinda overly harsh on my criticism of these tires as they simply cannot handle an SS/TC, but would probably be fine on something slower.
