Will a 215/45-18 tire fit on a 225/45-18 wheel?

I just bought the 18x8 Black w/Red Stripe Focal F01 wheels from tirerack.com. The Rec. Tire Size: 225/45-18. My Stock tires are 215/45-18. My question is, can i just swap my stock tires to the new wheels with no problems? I really dont want to buy 4 new tires because i just bought 4 new tires for my stock wheels 2 weeks ago. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

215/45R18 is the narrowest size that will fit on an 8" wide wheel safely. We recommend the 225 as it puts the a littl more of the tire sidewall beyond the face of the wheel for a little curb protection.

Tire rack should change their recommendation from 225/45/18 to 225/40/18. The 45 profile is too tall and some people have rubbing issues with them. They also make 18" wheels look like 17's due to the huge sidewall. 08+ SS's come with 225/40/18's and that is the most popular size used to replace pre 08 215/45/18's. 235/40/18's are a close second. I would go with the 225/40's on 8" wide wheels when it's time to replace your 215/45's.
