cobalt 3800 swap?
i have been working on my bonnie for the past 2 years and i have came into a bit harder times i still wanna finish the bonnie but i wouldn't be able to finish her with all the body work i would have to do. that's where my cobalt comes in, its a 09 2,2 that I've been wanting to mod forever, i was thinking of bring the 2 together and having the best of both worlds.
what i need to do to make it work would be make or mod the mounts, new custom axles, mod the engine cradle mounts and wiring
the reason im posting on here is so i can get other points of view on the subject and no i dont wana built the 2.2 or swap a lsj or lnf i have a 3.8 that i already have $1600 into

provided the engine bay is physically large enough to fit it without modifying it to the point of losing structural rigidity, I think it would be pretty cool. I wouldn't do it with anything less than a supercharged 3800 though. A SC 3800 with a pulley drop, heat exchanger, etc would be a lot of fun.

thanks for the support
what i've done to the 3.8 already is wiesco pistons, k1 rods, 9.1.0 compression, bored .20 over, port and polished heads, ported lower intake manifold, and ported supercharger. i plan to finish it off with a heat ex-changer and drop the pulley to 2in which should be about 14 psi {this is a series 1 3.8) if i get a gen 4 m62 with 2in pulley ill be at 17 psi
i think the biggest problem i would have is getting all the stock gauges working

before anyone gets too excited i'm still not sure if i wanna do the swap or not, i've been thinking about it 24/7 and i realy only need one project car/work in progress so that eliminates the bonnie, so it comes down to the cobalt and i have 2 options swap the 3.8 which i think would be sick or sell everything for the 3.8 and build the 2.2.
3800 series 1
say if i do swap it i want to keep ac, heat, and maybe the stock gauges
the down fall of the swap would be custom mounts and a **** ton of wiring
2.2
now say if i sell the 3800 and build the 2.2 i would have to go back and do the work i already did with the 3.8 but i don't have to make anything custom and no wiring
but the downfall of both is the both trannys can only be build to 400hp
my question is what is your opinion on the subject?

doing more research i found that i can use a 4t45e tranny from a grand am that came with 3400 all the transmission mounts are exactly the same and the transmission will bold to the 3800
so that tranny eliminates 2 of the 4 mounts and i still need to compare the other 2 mounts to the ones on the bonnie also no custom axles but the challange would be in the wiring but yet agian the grand am guys have swaped 3800 in with the 4t45e trannys but they had to piggy back the 2 ecu's
they swaped in series 2 3.8 so i have to either find a stand alone for the tranny i can use megasquirt or aem stand alone for engine or piggy back the series 1 ecu or see if a series 2 ecu would work

well i cant figure out how the wiring would work yet besides buying 2 stand alone's and that would be 1400 bucks and i still need about that to finish the engine itself if anyone has any idea on how to get the series 1 and the 4t45e plus the cobalt working together would be awesome but i'm leaning towards build the 2.2 because i don't wanna rip the dash and all that out

i think i've come up with two solutions first is i can use the stock 3800 ecu tune it and use a tranny controller but i still have to pay $950 or i can use a 3400 ecu which can control the tranny but can it be tuned to use it with the 3800? if so then that would be the ticket and everything would be working like stock
what tranny did he use
what tranny did he use

why not just run a standalone and auto meter gauges and be done with it?
can you use a 5-speed stick from a 4 cyl?
"The GM FWD V6 engines share the same bolt pattern as the OHV 4 cylinder engines ( the two found in the 3rd Generation J-body cars are the 2.2OHV and the 2200"

with the 3800 i can use the getrag 282 or 284 but if i do swap it i wana do it as cheap as possible and right now im looking at around $2000 to swap it
i think i finally got it though the 3400 4t45e is the same as the cobalt's just different bell housings so they have same mounts and sensors so i can use the stock tranny control modual i would just need to wire in any sensors that it needs, and i can use megasquirt to run the 3800 speedo should still work idk about rpms or i could use the 3800 pcm and tune it

my hpt tuner did a 3800 swap in his cavi, turbo'd it, puts down 600+ WHP (on a mustang dyno)
search raven, or 3800 cavalier etc

Raven's car is a beast....I love that thing.
3800sc motors have been swapped many times in Cavi's, you can also use a 2.2 OHV F23 Getrag from a cavalier too is you wish.
There was a guy who even put a northstar V8 in his, that motor is HUGE..so if thats possible anything is pretty much possible.
