Question No catalytic converter on the 2.4L?!

Just before I go to my part time job I was very curious in asking.. Can you remove the catalytic converter and just throw a peice of pipe on there? Here in Alberta it is not illegal to run without but funny thing its illegal to run no muffler but ya can it be done with little issue? And if not and you need to have the sensor wired in can any high flow cat work on our cars?

thanks for any info you can give..

Put a high flow cat on there. Without the cat the exhaust note will sound really raspy. There is a minimal gain in going without a cat as opposed to getting a high flowing one.

well, you CAN, but it will throw a CEL.

now, they do also make a kit to eliminate the CELs as well...

but, it would all be worthless without a high flow manifold and downpipe, just the cat itself isn't an issue.

Cars with no cats only sound good if they're V8's. Otherwise, high-flow that bitch. I may do the same if I mod my exhaust..

If you want rid of it just bring your car down here and park it, shouldn't take long for someone to steal it off your car and take it to be recycled for the money.

Ok but one of my questions is still un answered....

can you put any high flow cat on there? I mean I know the pipe diameter has to be right and you need the sensor port but ya someone please point me in the right direction or understanding..

thankyou

Good question. I've never seen it before, so I just imagined it was a standard kind? lol. But I'm sure if the pipe diameter is the same that it'll be ok.. But hopefully someone else will know..

Anything else you need to replace under there? Any 02 sensors or anything? I know sometimes there's weird things.. Like on my dads '04 Monte SS there's something called a U-bend. something with a sensor. People always straight pipe that.

NamedGoBalt just put a full 3" Vibrant setup (header, dp and cat-back), and it features a high flow cat, and its still hellaciously loud. I can't tell whose car is louder....mine or his.....they're different types of loud you could say.

Haha yeah its been on my car since November '06. I had it pre-ordered directly through ARK 3 months before it even came out. Asides from the tester car, I was the first Cobalt in the general public to have it. And I was the first 2.4SS period to have it on. Pioneering Cobalt **** FTW son! Haha

No... your car will implode. It has a Self Destruct system that detects when you have removed the Cat.
