interesting OnStar option

I got a call today from onstar, and they told me they're selling 100 mins. for $20 right now, instead of $40..I have no mins, so I took the deal. then the lady tells me that if you give them your email address, they'll send you monthly "status" reports on your car's diognostic system; tell me basically how my cars is functioning every month, and when i need to change my oil, etc. Pretty interesting. It's free, so i did it. Anyone else hear of this?

i have no problem with it, but other members seem to have some sort of personal vendetta against it.....something about privacy invasions and the ability for them to track your car, etc.

I knew about the diagnostics but opted out of it. I read the agreement carefully and I was a little leary about it. Unless they've changed something, there was something in there about by accepting the terms of the agreement and participating in the program, you agree to allow OnStar to keep a log of your vehicle's diagnostics and information about your vehicle may be sent to your dealer. Something along those lines. I talked to my uncles about it (they sell GMs) and they urged me not to do it, but I haven't taken another look at it. This was probably 3 or 4 months ago so they may have revised the TOS.

Overall I like OnStar, and I'll definitely keep the service, it's just that the TOS made me a little leary about agreeing to sign up for this particular thing. I keep a pretty close eye on my car so I'm not too worried about not getting the e-mails.
